Personality: Ollie is a very handsome GR mix. He came to the shelter in San Antonio after he had been hit by a car. GRR came to the rescue and while he was very sweet and in pain and wanting to stand up, he could not. Ollie had surgery to repair two left side fractures and was on severe exercise restriction for quite a while. However, Ollie is doing well after his surgery and can now begin light exercise.

Ollie is reliably housetrained. He likes his crate and lays in it with the door open. He used to be baby-gated when left alone until the clever boy figured out how to unlatch it. Now he happily goes into his crate.

He hasn’t been allowed to play with the other dogs yet. There was a bit of a scuffle when one of the dogs in the house snuck into Ollie’s restricted area and snitched some food. Ollie is improving in his behavior when the other dogs walk by his crate now.

His leash experience is only in the backyard, but he does quite well. He also is a happy car traveler. Ollie is calm in the house and plays with a stuffy or chews a bone. He’s protective of his food and toys. He sleeps through the night and sleeps a lot during the day, too, trying to heal that body.

He’s starting to learn commands and gets very excited when he sees his foster mom. Poor Ollie has a little separation anxiety and will howl when he is left home alone.

Ideal Family:   Ollie definitely needs a home in which he will get a lot of love and attention. He is very smart and learns quickly, so his family should be willing to work with him on his training.  Ollie needs a family who will continue working with him to strengthen his muscles post-surgery and build his confidence.
