Positive for heartworms?:
Extraordinary Golden Fund recipient?:

GRR Number: 16-072

Type of Surrender: Stray

Status: matched

Age: 8

Weight: 43

Personality:  Petite Penelope was found wandering the streets of a San Antonio neighborhood when luckily GRR came to her rescue. After a bath, her coat looks gorgeous and fluffy.  As her photos show, she is a small girl, but displays every Golden characteristic, physical and personality wise, including being good natured around her new foster’s canines (very well socialized). She quickly merged into the pack, and learned of the delicious figs from the two fig trees in their backyard.  Despite her recent time on the streets, Penelope is very loving, and eagerly accepts attention (a.k.a. belly rubs).

She is house trained, and lets you know when she needs a trip outside, but is ready to come back inside after doing her business. She enjoys simple toys, and a tennis ball is one of her current favorites.  She loves to fetch the ball, but prefers to keep it for herself, rather than return it to you! Tug-of-war with another toy is fun too, and interestingly enough, she will gladly release it when prompted. During the holiday fireworks, she remained calm, and showed no signs of distress or nervousness.

Penelope’s initial visit to the vet indicated a generally fine condition, with some skin issues that are being addressed with medicated shampoo used during her bath.  She tolerates the baths quite well, but is happy when they are over! That skin treatment and her new improved diet has worked wonders.

Her affectionate nature and joy in being around her humans makes Penelope a great addition to any household.  Her energy level is a perfect mid-point between puppy level and mature Golden. This sure seems like a unique “Golden Opportunity”.

Ideal Home:    Penelope would be great in a house with one or more other dogs, and a moderate amount of daily activity, including playtime.  No indication yet on her feelings about cats, however. More details to follow, as she settles in to reveal more of her character.
