GRR number: 16-027

Type of Surrender: Owner turn in from Round Rock

Status: Available

Age: 8 years

Weight: 85 lbs. (goal weight is 75-80 lbs.)

Personality: Chance is a fine full blooded field-bred American Golden Retriever, with longer legs and a larger body than standard.  He has good looking (some would say beautiful) wavy curls on his medium gold coat. His personality mirrors his physical appearance, as he is strong yet gentle and soft spoken and likes to be spoken to softly (no yelling needed with this boy!). He “lights up” if you accept his invitation to snuggle, as he is always ready to please. He really enjoys being groomed. His intelligence and curiosity results in his sniffing and inspecting everything within eyelevel that might be of interest.

Chance is an active guy who loves to go on walks, but given his size, he doesn’t aspire to be your jogging partner. He also enjoys backyard play and is particularly fond of retrieving the occasional tennis ball – any tennis ball. He is fully trained in the basics like sit, stay and down and is housebroken. Chance sleeps through the night, but also has a particularly accurate watch, as his foster relates. Chance has a 5:45 AM alarm that goes off on the dot. Nothing like a Golden cold nose wake up to start the day.

Chance lived with another Golden in his previous home, and the two got along famously. After a day or so of familiarization, he is doing quite well with his new foster’s two furry friends. Chance loves a good round of puppy play, but has a medium energy level, so if the rough housing gets too much, he lets his canine partners know.

Chance passed his incoming vet exam with flying colors, with his eyes, skin, abdomen and lymph nodes in fine condition.  He has mild ear yeast that is being treated and soon will be resolved.  His goal weight is 5 to 10 pounds lower than his current weight, and it will likely be achieved with the increased level of activity around his foster and family canine crew.

Ideal home: Chance will make a wonderful family member, who only wants to please you every chance he gets. He is big, lovable, strong but gentle, and therefore would be best with adult owners and with children 10 and older.
