Personality: Amethyst came to GRR in very bad shape with so many health issues like being positive for heartworm and tick borne disease. All her problems are undoubtedly the result of a combination of neglect and living on the streets. This angel's most serious problem is that she has a very low platelet count that is being monitored very closely. She is under constant vet care and has spent the last week there so they can keep a close eye on her. Luckily, she gets frequent visits from her foster mom, with an occasional trip to her foster home. Between the love and attention of both, she is gaining weight and energy every day, but she has a long road ahead. Amethyst is a real fighter and wants so badly to get better. Mark Twain was right when he said, “it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.”

This sweet girl, despite being sick, is perky and happy and loves to ride in the car with her foster mom back and forth to the vet (where, by the way, the entire staff has fallen in love with her). She has “Piggy”, a gift from her foster, that she carries around with her at home and at the vet. She also loves food from her favorite restaurant, Chick Fil-A, and of course Krispy Kreme donuts. Who doesn’t? With the help of a mostly healthy diet and a few of these kinds of guilty pleasures, Amethyst has already gained about 7 pounds.

Ideal Home: Amethyst will need a lot of attention and tender loving care. Once she is better she will be a 2-year old golden, which means she’ll be full of beans, so she’ll need a house that loves beans!
