Personality: Hi! I’m Benchley, and I was bestowed my name when I casually jumped up on a bench with my GRR volunteers and happily watched the world go by. (I’m the red headed guy in the photos).  I am a great observer of my surroundings, which have recently gotten better every day! When we left the kennel, I was pretty excited, and twirled around several times. You know the feeling!

I enjoy being around other canines, but I’m not into romping and stomping to show who is boss. Calm, collected and sophisticated, that’s me. I LOVE attention from humans, and it would be fine with me if you pet me all day. I’ll put my head against you to remind you, if needed.  I’m all-in on the basic commands like sit, wait and down. I showed off to my GRR volunteers on the ride from the kennel by laying down in the back seat on their command.  They ate it up! I think I am really growing on them. They were talking in the front of the car, saying words like “happy”, “adorable”, “affectionate” and “very active”. They said, ”He is a boy anyone would enjoy”. That sure sounded a lot like me.

My temporary home is like heaven compared to just days ago. I settled in quickly, and I am behaving perfectly well indoors even when I am left by myself. I have even picked out my favorite spot in each room.  I was restless at night at first, but now I sleep through the night just fine being around my foster parents. My foster parents appreciate my mature behavior – none of that puppy over-the-top high energy – just warm loving companionship!

I would love to shower you with my special Golden appreciation every day when you take me with you to my new forever home.

Ideal home: Based on his personality, Benchley would be best in a home with his humans around most of the day, rather than being alone from 9 to 5. He also would probably do best in a “single dog” household even though he does just fine around other dogs.  More details to be forthcoming as he shows more of his fine character to his foster parents.
