"The Guisachan Gathering 2018" – A historical event like no other, celebrating 150 years since the Golden Retriever was first bred by Lord Tweedmouth of Tomich, Scotland in 1868. A century and a half later, people from 37 countries around the world, and 361 Golden Retrievers returned for the Guisachan Gathering, at the former mansion of Lord and Lady Tweedmouth for a week-long celebration of this amazing breed. This historic celebration of the breed included competitions, a Torchlight Procession to the ruins and the all important Duke of York “count", of attending golden retrievers, and a Championship Dog Show, not to mention the incredible Scottish hospitality on display. As a producer of TV content (primarily about horses) I am also a long-term Golden owner, having owned 6 goldens over 30 years, and our last three we adopted from Golden Retriever Rescue of North Texas. With Christopher Cornwall, another ardent rescue supporter, who has fostered over 70 dogs in the past ten years, we wanted to do something special with this once in a lifetime event, so Chris and I made the trip to Scotland at our own expense, with cameras in hand and produced a 66 minute long documentary on the event.
