Meet GRR’s Class of 2010!

It’s nearly June… graduation time for senior classes across the land. At GRR, we have a very accomplished Senior Class, just waiting to graduate right into your home. And before you think, “Too old,”  just ask yourself: Do you ever think a high school, college, med school, law school, business school graduate is too old? No! If anything, you probably think they’re still a bit “green” – fully educated in the basics, but still needing that all-important actual work/life experience to round them out.

Our Senior Class has it all – they’ve long since mastered their core curriculum (Housebreaking 101, Basics of Free-Roam Reliability, Elements of Distinguishing Toys from Human Clothing, Advanced Non-Jumping, Intercanine Relations, etc.), and on top of that they have extensive life experience that has enabled them to roll with some pretty big changes and maintain their mental equilibrium. As far as physical equilibrium… well, some of them may be a little unsteady from time to time due to stiff joints, but who  cares about that when there are so many positives to list? These are the words we often hear from our foster homes: Easy. Perfect. Laidback. The ideal houseguest. Couldn’t be sweeter. Easy-care. Adaptable. Makes me smile every day!

Two other words we hear: “inspiring” and “rewarding.” More than a few of our oldies arrive in very rough shape, but they still have a young, cheerful, optimistic spirit. It’s wonderful to watch them getting healthier and prettier—and having the worry-free Golden Years they deserve. Some of them positively astound us with their energy and hijinks! And even those who are a little more “rickety” will touch your heart as they chase a gently rolled ball or confidently approach the car, ready to leap in for a ride—and then remember “oh, I need a boost.” In their minds, they’re still  young & spry. We should all have such a good attitude!

Some of our seniors came to us many months ago—Taylor, Annie, Teddy, Susie, Chester, and Geni. Some of them, like Zappers, Godfrey, JoeJoe, and Sweetpea, are quite new to GRR. But all of them are looking for that special forever home.  It could be yours! For more on the special joys of owning a senior, please visit the Golden Oldies section of our website.

Do you have a Senior Moment to share?  We have a hard time finding homes for our oldies, and testimonials from happy senior-owning families are the best PR we could ask for to encourage others to consider adopting a senior. Maybe you’ve had your Golden since puppyhood, and you’re really enjoying his or her mature years. Maybe you thought you wanted a young dog, but wound up with a mature Golden and could not be happier. Whatever your story, please let us hear from you! A few lines about your dog (and a photo, if you have one) are all we need. Please send stories & pictures to becky@grr-tx.com and we’ll include them in our Golden Oldies section. Thank you!
