Sugrr

update 5/2

Wow! Sugrr is thriving. Latest report:

I can’t believe how much her health has improved in such a short time. Perfect weight for her is about 35 pounds… and now that she’s healthy, we can tell there’s a little something else in there besides Golden. Maybe beagle? Never mind—everyone will want her! She is calm for age 1. Friendly & happy.  Enjoys other dogs of all ages. Snuggles with the older Goldens, plays with the younger ones. Naps on the stairway... she fits in perfectly. She’s still a puppy, so her new owner should be sure to puppy-proof the house—make sure she can’t get to her favorite “chew toys” (the TV remote, anything leather).  Perfect little gal, we really like her. She loves to cuddle on my lap or lie on the couch with me... very sweet. Cute little bounce to her step. Might become more rowdy as her health continues to improve, though!

Spay surgery scheduled for Monday, May 5th.  I can do post-spay exercise restriction for 10 days—or if there’s a responsible adoptive home willing to see her through her recovery, she can be adopted even before the end of exercise restriction.

update 4/4

Sugrr's health & energy have improved dramatically in the past 17 days. She gets really excited at meal time. She eats 3 times per day & always cleans her plate—has probably put on 4 pounds already. Calm & polite in the house, with no destruction. She likes to lounge in the La-Z-Boy chair in my office while I work, or on the couch if we are in the living room. She recently hopped into the window seat in the living room, which she thought was a Big Deal.  She is feeling better every day, and I expect that she will become more mischievous as her health improves. She has no qualms about standing on coffee tables to explore!   She still has not done one naughty thing... polite little lady.   It was cute last night when I lay down on the couch to watch TV... expected to only be there 5 minutes, but Sugrr hopped up & climbed on top of me to snuggle... so we stayed a long time. She is a wonderful little gal & we are thrilled to foster her.

She’s only as big as half a dog—so to make up for that, we decided to give SuGRR Daisy two names. Weighing in at just 28 pounds, the 1- to 2-year-old stray (who had recently had puppies) is nothing but skin, bones… and a very nice personality! The good news is, she doesn’t have heartworms, and the vet thinks there’s nothing wrong with her that several months of TLC and generous meals won’t cure. And little SuGRR got a jump start on her high-cal regimen on the way to foster care, leaning over the seat to help herself to the oatmeal cookie her “chaffeur” was eating. Clever dog! Watch this space for updates on her progress.

These photos were taken ~03/19/08.  Sugrr slept for the first 3 days...only got up to eat & potty.  Sugrr is already looking better & is chippier.    She has kennel cough but feels okay.  What a little sweetie.  :-)
