Beau
Update 4/28
Happy news! Beau’s ear infections are almost cleared up. While he was at the clinic for a re-check, he met the office cat—and good news there, too.. Beau noticed the kitty but paid no attention as she wandered around the waiting room, jumped on counters, and so on.
His leash manners are excellent. His foster mom says, “On our family walks (4 people/3 dogs) our 5-year-daughter walks him (the spare adult is directly behind her). He stays right with her, and he doesn’t care if he’s walking in the rear or out in front. By the way, we’ve also found out that he’s not storm-phobic… we’ve had some big thunderstorms, and he stays calm all the way through.”
update 4/13
Beau continues to charm his foster family! He is ready to find his forever home.
Here’s the report from his foster mom:
Beau is completely reliable at home alone – he’s so calm indoors that he has the
run of the house and doesn’t need a crate. I don't think he'd been anywhere with
stairs, so it took him almost a week to venture up the stairs, and that was with
coaxing. Once up, the poor boy couldn't figure out how to get down at first!
Beau is great with our children (ages 5 and 10) – very patient and tolerant of
all the hubbub associated with kids. He doesn’t jump up on people—or on
furniture, either. He interacts well with our two Goldens; he doesn’t wrestle
with them, but he’s playful and likes a game of tug. He’s an excellent
traveler—jumps right into the car and sits down. He’s good on lead too—walks
right alongside you and doesn’t pull. As for swimming, well, he got into the
pool but didn’t swim! He just went into the “beach entry” and got his paws wet.
When the kids are in the pool he sits on the side and watches. I'm sure if I
gave him the OK he'd jump on in.
Beau is curious around the garbage can but hasn't gotten into it. The pantry is
another story! I usually leave the door open and he found a big (Costco-sized)
box of dog biscuits under the shelf. He was able to slide the box from the
bottom and tip it over. We now close the panty door. :) He doesn’t steal food,
though. He’s very patient at feeding times; while we’re eating he’ll sit at
attention next to us—but if you tell him to stop and lie down, he will. By the
way, he’s not protective of food at all. He lets me take his dish away or add to
it without a fuss.
Beau just loves to be groomed and bathed. That’s good, because when we went to
the vet to see about treating his ears & skin, we got medicated shampoos, three
anitbiotics, two ear flushes, and ear drops! He is responding well to treatment
and has a recheck in 2 weeks.
Beau has an awesome personality. His energy level matches what you are doing.
He’d be wonderful for any family interested in an attentive, calm Golden friend.
Mellow 9-year-old BEAU came to GRR when his owner moved to a small apartment that didn’t have room for a big Golden. He’s an easy-going, affectionate sweetie who enjoys lots of love and attention. He arrived in care with ear infections and skin problems, but his foster family is springing into action with shampoos, ear drops, and antibiotics, so Beau should be feeling great soon. No improvements needed on the personality front, though! Says his foster mom, “Beau is doing great. He is such a gentleman! Our two Goldens get along well with him and he seems to have adjusted to having a house full of kids and dogs. He is taking everything in stride.”
