Abby joined the GRR family on December 17, 2007, when a loving owner who could no longer provide for her surrendered her to us. She is an all-around beautiful, well-mannered girl with an outgoing, even-keel personality. From the moment she arrived, she’s demonstrated a truly affectionate nature: she loves adults, children of all ages, and dogs of all shapes and sizes. She’s had the opportunity to show off her myriad social skills in her foster environment. Of course, it pays to look good when you’re always out and about—those first impressions are so important!—so naturally Abby adores her grooming sessions. She loves to be brushed and combed.

Abby is long and lanky, at 75 pounds, and enjoys reclining on the king-size bed in the guest room. However, she seems equally comfortable on the tile floor, on carpeted areas, or on an oriental rug at the end of the hall. She loves to be close, and is a touchy-feely girl. She finishes her meals rather rapidly, but drinks her water in ultra-ladylike fashion, without splashing a drop outside the water bowl.

Abby is an enthusiastic walker and loves to sniff everything along the way. However, she’ll walk close by your side if you insist—and we advise that you do! If you don’t, a walk around the block could take a very long time. She’s alert to everything around her, and often sees, hears, or senses something highly interesting—and at once, her ears go up and she strongly suggests that running off and exploring would be a fine idea! So, keeping a firm hold on her leash during walks is essential.

Abby knows her name and comes immediately when called. She also responds well to SIT and DOWN. She doesn’t know STAY very well—staying put (instead of checking out the action) is just not in her nature, but she’s trying very hard to remember what the word means. At some point along the way it seems that she didn’t have much chance to practice commands, but she’s very smart and adjusting extremely well to her new environment.

Happily, Abby is not an overly vocal Golden girl, but responds to a ringing doorbell in a very deep and brief, extremely pleasing alto voice. She welcomes friends at the door enthusiastically, but never loudly. She is happy to meet and greet everyone. Abby gets along well with small and large dogs and ignores those who bark. She enjoys playing with soft toys, but has not yet warmed up to hard rubber bones or balls. She is enthusiastic, gentle, and a real love.

Abby is a wonderful companion who will be equally at ease with an active family or with active adults. And she is ready to join her forever family today!
