Tracker

Handsome Tracker &  his sister Taylee came to GRR from an owner who could no longer care for them. Both Goldens are healthy, affectionate, totally housebroken, good car riders—and VERY energetic! For the past 18 months or so they’d been missing out on regular exercise, both mental and physical, so of course whatever attention they got made them highly excited—and they got into the habit of jumping up, as excited young Goldens will do. Tracker also likes to paw you for attention—but his foster mom says that, despite the jumping and pawing, this guy is going to make a fantastic dog for someone:

We are working on the jumping up and “slapping,” and slowly making progress. It’s baby steps, but after all, he has had these habits for several years now. He is learning to SIT for everything – before he goes into or comes out of his crate (and by the way, he is excellent in the crate), before he goes out the door, before he comes back in the door, before he gets his meals or treats. (For such an enthusiastic dog, he takes his treats surprisingly gently.)

Tracker will need a home who can give him LOTS of exercise. He can go on a nice long walk and be ready to play again half an hour later. He walks best on a Gentle Leader and really enjoys his outings. He loves to play ball, too. Obedience and agility classes would be wonderful for Tracker, to exercise both his mind and his body and help tire him out. It would be best if he went to a home with no children or older kids (teenagers) only—we’ll get the  jumping & pawing  resolved,  but it’s  going to take reinforcement  and consistency, and if he forgets himself he could really mow a little child right down.

Tracker gets along well with all the other dogs, and with people, he is a champion snuggler. He’s well behaved in the house—he does like to counter surf, but it’s more the check out out what’s there than to steal everything in sight. I have left him home alone, loose in the house, for short periods and he’s doing well, no destruction. And he is handsome! On the smaller side for a male Golden, too, for those who like a somewhat more “petite” fella. In short, he’s a great boy who will just keep  getting better as he gets more training and masters new skills.
