Subject: April Annie update

To GRR:
We would like give the GRR an update on Annie. We adopted April Annie in October 2008.
When Annie came to us she  had  little social skills.  She would growl at other dogs  and pull on her leash during our walks.  For weeks we had to use a harness each time we walked so she wouldn't drag me around the street. Scary as it was, I tried my best to break her habit by walking her more. It seemed that the more she walked the more familiar she became with her surroundings. We find out PetSmart offers obedience classes, and Annie has completed all three sessions from beginner to advanced. She also goes to Taurus Dog Day Care once in a while to play with other dogs and socialize. Annie is doing great: she loves to walk in the park, around Town Lake and even just around the neighborhood. I even let her run free with me in the open field . Best of all was watching her having so much fun during swim fest just this past weekend, swimming with a huge pack of other Goldies.

Miss April Annie has been with us for a little over 2 weeks now, and she is the perfect houseguest. She gets along well with our resident dogs and our cat. She loves to play and chase balls, especially soft ones, but she is also content just to lie around wherever we are and keep us company.

Probably the funniest thing about April Annie is that she LOVES to watch TV. Whenever a show comes on that interests her, she’ll hop right up from wherever she is and get as close to the TV as she can. She prefers animal shows—her favorites seem to be bull riding, as well as duck- and deer-hunting shows (check out the photos of Video Girl picking up some duck-hunting tips). Periodically, she will just go check out what’s on TV, but if it doesn’t suit her interests, she doesn’t stay to watch!

April Annie is a big, tall girl, but at 96 pounds, she does need to lose about 10 to 15 pounds. She's enjoying her green bean diet and is making progress on her slimming campaign. She is a joy to have in our home, and we are looking forward to getting to know her even better.

update 10/27:

This big & tall gal came to GRR from way down South (Texas, that is), where she was living with a family who couldn’t really care for her properly. Her Austin-area “aunt” came for a visit, and when she saw the shape her furry niece was in—well, that was that. Just coming out of a heat cycle, rashes, hot spots, loads of ticks and fleas… Miss April needed help! Before she knew it, she was loaded up and on her way to Austin. Life got a lot better a lot faster, but April’s aunt spends long, long hours away from the house & wanted April to have more companionship each day. It was time to find her a forever home, and what better way to do that than through GRR?

At 96 pounds, April needs to shave off a pound or two (well, OK, more like 16), but she’s lively and peppy despite the excess baggage. Everyone who meets her finds her a delightful lady. She’s active and enthusiastic, but not overbearing. She’s a trusting girl and full of love and zest. And as she loses weight and gets ever healthier, she’s going to be a beauty! Watch this space for updates, as we get to know April Annie better.
