Adopted

Sage... Say hello to sweet, 3-month-old Sage. She and her two brothers found themselves at an animal shelter, taken there in the middle of the night, the last three of a litter, no longer wanted. Like most shelters, this one was overcrowded, so the pups were scheduled to be euthanized had a wonderful Good Samaritan not come to the rescue. She nabbed all three puppies and called GRR. We’re so glad that help was at hand for Sage, River, and Rowan!!

The pups came in undernourished, with skinny frames and sparse coats. But a high-quality diet, exercise, and a good bath have worked wonders in a short period of time. Sage’s coat is already fuller and puppy soft, and you should see her muscles ripple when she plays tug with her 80-pound Golden foster brother!

A little lady in a puppy’s body, Sage is the princess of the ball in her foster home. She loves being doted upon and enjoys snuggling and cuddling with her foster mom and dad while we watch TV or read. She’s content to sleep at her foster mom’s feet while Mom works at the computer, to lie in her crate and chew on a bone, or to watch regally from her spot in the middle of the kitchen while Mom cooks. When it’s time for chores, Sage tags along, ready for adventure. She loves to supervise washing and folding clothes, dusting, mopping; you name it, she’s there to help. If you forget where you put your shoes, she’ll find them for you even before you’ve realized you lost them.

Definitely a retriever at heart, she’s discovered tennis balls and will gleefully bring a ball to you, release it to hand, wait for it to sail across the yard, then bound after it. She loves to play with the older dogs, be it stealing the Frisbee and getting the others to chase her around the yard or grabbing the feathery tails of her foster brother and sisters and claiming clumps of hair as her prize. She is smart and knows the limits of puppy pestering. The older dogs have done a wonderful job of teaching and mentoring, and Sage, being a quick learner, has made great strides under their tutelage.

Sage is delightful to take for walks, strolling with head held high, taking in all the sights and sounds of the great outdoors while always staying alert to cues from her foster mom or dad. She’s learning how to sit and stay and is willing to comply for as long as her 3-month-old attention span will allow—that is, for about 3 seconds! Potty training is progressing, but that 3-month-old attention span is what it is, so it’s human mom and dad that must remember to take her outside after she eats, plays, wakes up from a nap, or gets that wandering look in her eyes. Once outside, she will entertain you with her acrobat routine: a tuck-and -roll somersault or two across the grass before deciding to sniff out the perfect potty spot.

Sweet Sage needs a home where someone is home a lot and will give her the attention and training she needs. She would do well with children over 5 years of age and with older dogs who will be patient with her peppy puppy antics.
