River is a 3-month-old boy who came to GRR  all the way from Abilene—along  with his sister Sage and brother  Rowan. All three had been left in the  overnight  “drop box” of  a local shelter which was already bursting at the seams with dogs. Luckily, they phoned their “Golden contact” for help,  letting her know they’d have to put the pups down soon if nobody could take them in.  She rescued all three pronto, before their fates were  sealed, and asked GRR  if we could make room for triplets.  And that’s how River came to Austin!

River is a sweet little boy who is suprisingly calm for his age. He’s very eager to please and wants to be near you all the time.    This can lead to a few protests when he's first put in his crate, but he does settle down. So far he's been  a good little houseguest—he hasn't chewed on anything inappropriate and hasn't gotten into anything he shouldn't. For such a little puppy, that’s astonishing!

He seems like he's got the potential to live up to his name. Although he hasn't made any big splashes into the pool, he has done a little wading. He's so adorable to watch as he tries to figure out why his big brother and sisters are so enamored with bringing back balls and training dummies from the water . I bet he's thinking, “Haven't we all had enough rain and been wet long enough  not to want be anywhere near any more water?”

River is great with other dogs and is totally happy with being the lowest dog on the totem pole.  When out walking, he greets every passerby, canine or human, like the happy-go-lucky guy he  is.  The entire neighborhood  has already fallen in love with him.  

He's also pretty darn smart.  He's figured out potty is for the great outdoors and can keep his crate unsoiled for 5 to 6 hours when left alone.  He is quickly associating the words “go potty” with the deed.

River is just your typical “play hard, sleep hard, and love hard” kind of pup. He's been  given a clean bill of health from the vet and will soon be ready to join a very lucky family!
