Adopted

Eliza ...Hi!  My name is Eliza, and I am about 5 years old. I was wandering the streets for a while, which earned me a stay in the pound, but thank heavens the nice people at Gold Ribbon picked me up after just a few days!  I was a little scruffy at first. I was missing some fur and I had a sore place on my ear. But now, my ear is healing up and my hair is growing back.  My nails still need some clipping, even though my foster family has clipped them twice. I guess I hadn’t had a pedicure for years! I don’t mind the grooming, especially if I get treats.  One thing I don’t like is thunderstorms—I don’t go crazy or anything, but it helps to hide under the bed when it is storming.

My foster family and everyone who meets me describe me as “very sweet.”  Some friends of my foster mom & dad came over with their 4-year-old and 8-year-old human girls, and they just wanted to take me home on the spot.  I haven’t meet any cats up close, but the cats I see in the neighborhood are okay… nothing to get excited about! And I get along fine with other dogs, too.  I am pretty mellow most of the time, although I do like to play with my foster brother Zeke.  Zeke and I roll around on the floor and pretend to bite at each other.  I also do fetch the ball sometimes and usually bring it back, but I like to make things a little more challenging for the humans by making them work to get it out of my mouth.

I am very ladylike—no jumping, no stealing food, and I only beg with my eyes. I stay in the crate while my family is gone at work.  I don’t mind too much, because they give me a treat when I get in. I don’t try to get out of the crate, but the baby gate doesn’t stop me!  I can wiggle under it or just push it over.  I mostly just want to be with people.  When my family comes home from work, I am so excited to see them that I smile.  You just have to lift your top lip to smile.  Some may think it looks like a snarl, but it’s obvious that I am just extra-happy, as my tail is wagging wildly.

I am a good walker and really do love car rides too!  Sometimes you just have to stick your nose out the window and take in the scents and the scenery.

Now that I am in better shape than I was a few weeks ago, I have a vet date very soon, on Friday August 3 in fact, to have my spay surgery. I might get an X-ray of my ankle, too. That’s because one of my ankles hurts when I put weight on it.  The vet thought it might just be arthritis and gave me some anti-inflammatory tablets, but I am still limping, so we need to find out what’s what! The sore paw doesn’t stop me from following my foster parents around the house and demanding petting by nudging their hands with my nose.

I will keep you all posted about the results of my vet visit. In the meantime, please start thinking about adding a sweet girl like me to your family!

Update 08/06/07:

Great news! I came through my spay surgery just fine and the vet says the only thing wrong with my ankle is a touch of arthritis. Just like a person, I’ll have my stiff days now and again. The past few days have been great, no limping! I’ll get started on some glucosamine products right away, and I can always take a doggie NSAID for a day or two when I am sore.
