Adopted

Jake came to Gold Ribbon Rescue from a loving family who could no longer care for him. I’d have to say he’s one of the most easygoing Goldens we’ve ever fostered. He is a typical all-around good, happy guy. He loves everything! … including all toys, but he does love to chew them up, too. We only give him kongs and tennis balls, and he is very happy with those.
He’s 9 years old, but you would never know it based on his looks and energy! We were told he likes to swim, and he has certainly proved it by leaping into our pool to retrieve a ball. He is a very good swimmer and loves to play fetch in the pool. Once the game is over, he enjoys being toweled dry. He is very good about having his ears cleaned and likes to be brushed, too—except for his hind end! He just doesn’t care to have you grooming his tail and pants, but in time I know he’ll get used to it. And when it comes to trimming his nails and paws, he is the most cooperative dog I have ever had. He actually gives me his paw to work on!

Jake has a healthy appetite but doesn’t gobble his food down. And when it comes to the water bowl, he is the daintiest drinker ever. If he were sipping tea, we swear he would be holding the cup with his pinky in the air. At the end of a day of playing in the pool and then going for his evening walk, Jake is very good about settling down in the house. When it’s time for bed, he comes up the stairs, settles down on the carpet, and is quiet for the whole night. (He seems to like the floor better than the three dog beds that are scattered about.) In the morning, he doesn’t wake up until I do, and then he is ready for a quick potty run and a yummy breakfast.

Jake is a real lover and loves everyone he meets. He gets along great with our Labrador, Bucky. He is very good about not jumping on people, but if you ask him to shake hands, you usually get both paws on your chest! We are working on a one-paw shake.

Jake would do well with just about any family that will pay attention to him and give him lots of petting, daily walks, and maybe some swimming too. He’d also love to go on rides. Whoever adopts this golden jewel will be one lucky family!
