Jack.... I'm Jack.
And in the last month I sure have seen a lot… so here is a recap. I started out
living in a home, and all was well with my family—but then this big thunderstorm
hit one day and I got scared home alone and I guess I damaged something. I don't
like thunderstorms! The next thing I knew I had another home. This new place,
called The Animal Shelter, was not bad, since there were lots of other dogs
there, which I really liked—but what good is it being around other dogs if you
can't play with them? I spent a few days there and reflected upon life,
wondering just what had landed me in my current situation. After all, I'm not a
bad dog, just a puppy, and pretty curious about exploring everything this world
has to offer!
Anyway, a few days later this nice lady came and took me to her house. She told
me how nice I was and commented on my big, tall frame and friendly personality.
This was good livin’… not only did she have other dogs, but they were (a)
Goldens like me; and (b) girls! I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. However,
those nice young ladies didn’t want to play with me, so I just had a meal (this
new place did have some good food), and took a nap. Ahhh…. life was lookin’ up!
As I was napping, I heard someone calling my name: "Jack! Jack!” Now I was
pretty happy in my dreams, going on a hunt and slaying elk and all, I but since
this nice person had given me a tasty meal and a cool floor, I politely got up
and saw she had a leash: it was time for a walk. We started out the front door,
went to the end of the walk, waited a minute… and the next thing I knew, this
nice man had me in his car and we were off again! I do enjoy car rides but this
was getting to be a bit much. I was nervous at first, but my foster Dad (that’s
who the man was) helped me calm down.
This was my fourth home in a short period of time, so you can imagine I was a
little anxious. However, I could hear some barking coming from inside the house,
so maybe we were here to play? A few minutes later a big Golden came out the
front door and introduced himself as Buddy. He said he was a GRR dog too, and
he’d show me the ropes & share his toys as long as I agreed to play with him; I
agreed (of course!) and we had a deal. Next thing I knew another dog, a female
named Barrett, came out of the house too. She sure is pretty, but she ignores
me. Man, I got no luck with the ladies!
I’m an adaptable kind of guy, so I settled right into life at this new place and
was eager to please everyone. I go into my own personal apartment (crate) on
command. The first night my foster parents wanted me to sleep by myself in the
crate, but I cried (I was lonely!) and kept them up, so they let me come into
their room with my new friends Buddy and Barrett. Ever since then, we all sleep
thru the night.
This new place is great! I get plenty to eat, I have so many toys to play with
that I lose track of them, we go for walks just about every other day, and we go
to the fenced park where Buddy and I get to frolic with the other dogs. Buddy
sure is nice, but when we go swimming he gets really nervous. I’ve tried to show
that it’s not that bad, but he won’t leave the shore.. but I swim all over the
place getting the ball and just watching the scenery. Swimming is my favorite
thing to do, especially since it’s hot outside now. I showed my foster mom and
dad that I can heel on the leash, and I sit when they stop; most of the time I
come when they call me (even if I'm off the leash!), and just this week I
learned to stay. Oh, and of course I am housebroken and don’t have accidents. I
still haven't figured out the ladies—maybe that will come in time, but like the
Jeffersons, I feel like I'm movin on up!
Oh and by the way, I am doing OK with the storms in this home, because I have my
friends to keep me company and let me know that all is well! Also, one time my
foster mom had to be away all day, so she had another GRR person come over to
let me and my pals out for a potty break halfway through the day. Those folks
couldn’t stop talking about nice and friendly and affectionate I am! Come over
some time and see for yourself!
See you soon,
Jack
