Adopted

Chantz is a great dog! We have been fostering him for a couple of weeks now and have grown to really like him. He was given to Gold Ribbon Rescue by a young couple who “inherited” him and loved him, but found that their busy travel schedule was forcing them to board him too often. They wanted him to have an at-home family and lots of attention every day.

Chantz was obviously well cared for. He knows his name, comes running when called, and sits on command. He is perfectly housetrained and has excellent house manners—he never gets on furniture and never chews anything inappropriate. He is so trustworthy that we give him the run of the house while we are out, and he’s been left alone as long as 8 hours.

He does like chew toys—actually he LOVES stuffed toys, but unstuffs them in seconds, so we give him Nylabones and old tennis balls instead.

Chantz is a wonderful companion. He bonded with us in just a couple of days and now follows me from room to room around the house; right now, he is snoozing on the floor under my chair. He sleeps quietly through the night at the foot of our bed, nudging us fully awake as we begin to stir in the morning. Chantz is excellent around children: he walks up to them calmly and then waits for their pats. Although he is big-boned and weighs about 95 pounds, he is gentle and forgiving, so even toddlers seem comfortable around him. Two of the young children in the neighborhood have taken to rushing out to greet Chantz with hugs when we go walking by.

Chantz needs and enjoys exercise. He is not so sure he likes activity as vigorous as jogging, but he puts up with it for short distances. He really enjoys a good hike, though.

Chantz is well socialized with other dogs. We have a big male Golden and initially worried about dominance issues, but there haven’t been any… the two boys even drink out of the same water bowl at the same time. They occasionally rough-house, but we do not encourage them—nearly 200 pounds of swirling dogs is a bit much for indoors! Mostly, though, they just curl up on the floor near each other, dozing or chewing on toys.

Did I mention that Chantz is a handsome guy? He has curly red fur and a face full of intelligence and awareness. People constantly mention his good looks. He is definitely the total package, beautiful inside and out!
