Jade
is a pretty little redhead who came to GRR when a Good Samaritan told her
co-worker (who happened to be a GRR volunteer) that her neighbor had moved away
and left a Golden and her 2-month-old mixed-breed puppies living under a trailer
in the backyard. She asked if we could help, and we said, “Of course!” … the
more so since the weather was bitterly cold and wet. The puppies were placed in
good homes by the Bexar County Humane Society, and Jade came to GRR.
Jade arrived in our home scared, emaciated, exhausted, and ever so grateful to
have a warm bed and good food. Unfortunately, she had a heavy load of
heartworms—but she’s now done with heartworm treatment, her energy has
increased, and she’s close to her ideal weight.
Lover-dog and cuddler extraordinaire, she likes nothing better than to lay her
head on your lap for some good petting. She likes it so much that when you stop,
she reminds you to keep going with her paw on your leg or arm or whatever she
can reach at the time. We are working on this as she likes to cuddle in bed with
you, and those paws can reach pretty far, to include your face! But, if you
ignore her, she will lie down by your side, content to be close. She loves
people, only jumps up when asked, and is quite the lady when we have company
over.
She ADORES stuffed animals and has
a blast chewing them up into really small pieces, which she then scatters around
our living room. This is the only thing I have ever seen her chew, and she is
never destructive with anything else. So, we hit Goodwill on Tuesdays for their
“buy one stuffie, get one free” sales!
We have three other dogs in the house, including our alpha Dalmatian, Zoe and
Jade gets along with all of them. She loves to play bitey head and chase around
the yard. She makes these funny growling sounds when she plays, as if to make
the other dogs scared of her. They all roll their eyes and go back to playing.
Jade loves to chase birds and squirrels in the backyard. We don’t have cats, so
we’re not sure how she would do with them. Two small boys live next door and she
LOVES them! She does well on a leash by herself, but if we walk her with our
other dogs, she likes to pull so she can be in the lead. (I think this is
because she thinks boys are silly and girls should always walk ahead of them.)
She has lots of energy, but loves to have quiet time as well. She loves to play
ball and will retrieve with the best of them.
Thunderstorms scare Jade a little, but she is never destructive. She just paces
and pants and tries to hide behind things. If she takes a couple of Benadryl
before the storm, she is fine.
We crated her when she first moved in, because of her heartworm treatment, but
now she is left in the house to roam free while we are gone and does great. She
obviously had training at some point in her life, as she knows SIT, COME, SHAKE,
STAY, and DOWN. Oh, and her recall is so amazing! much better than in any other
Golden I have known or met.
If you are looking for a sweet companion who will be forever faithful, this
special little girl will win your heart. Won’t you please consider her for your
home
