Adopted

Web... “Direct” – “Forthright” – “Straight to the Point.”

These are the words my foster parents use to describe me.

I don't know how they came up with this idea of me. Maybe it’s the way I climb into their laps, stare into their eyes, and let them know that it’s petting time. Maybe it’s because at 90 pounds, when I climb into a lap, I’m there to stay! Or maybe it’s the way I fetch a ball, drop it at their feet, and stare at them until they figure out that I’m not done playing yet. In any case, I’ve never heard anyone describe me as “shy” or “timid.” My given name is Web, and Dad says it stands for Wonderfully Exuberant Boy.

At almost 3 years old, I’d been living mostly in a backyard before coming to GRR. Even so, I seemed to know almost right away how to behave myself indoors. I don’t run around inside (unless you toss a ball for me), I don’t counter surf, and I don’t chase the cat. And the few times (should I admit to this?) that I’ve had an accident, it wasn’t my fault—really! Mom and Dad agree with me there—they apologized for not paying attention when I went to the door. But other than that, I’m just about perfect. They even said so!

My favorite thing in life, besides getting an endless amount of petting and attention, is playing fetch. My attitude is very simple, and I even wrote a poem about it:

LEFT OR RIGHT,
HIGH OR LOW,
I’LL FETCH A BALL
ANY WAY YOU THROW.

Mom said that it’s a good thing I like running after balls. Something about my weight. What’s wrong with “big” anyway? It just means there is more of me to love… still, if shedding a little of the old avoirdupois means increasing my fetching speed, I am all for it!

And I do have lots of Love to give. I adore people and I love both getting and giving attention. I’m very good around the kids here. And did I mention that I enjoy being petted, cuddled, groomed—I love it all. But right now I feel a nap coming on. Soon it will be bedtime and my presence will be needed to warm up the foot of the kids’ beds during story time. I’ve decided the best part of life is simply being a part of a family. Maybe I could be part of your family?
