Outlaw
and his brother Max came to GRR at the same time, when their owners realized
that they didn’t really have enough time for the dogs they had acquired by
accident (Outlaw belonged to the owner’s grandpa, who passed away, and Max
officially belonged to a college-age daughter who had dropped him off with her
parents “temporarily”). The two Golden brothers were spending most of their time
in a large wire-fenced pen, and the owners wanted a better life for them.
Max has already found his permanent home, and now it’s Outlaw’s turn! Here’s the
report from his foster dad:
Outlaw has proven to be such a
wonderful guy. He's mature enough to be fairly calm and well-behaved (no
house-training problems, other than a couple of pens that became chew-toys), but
still has plenty of energy for ball-chasing. He is very alert and smart, and
always wants to know what's going on.
I like to sit on my front lawn with him while I work on my laptop. He has
learned when the school bus drops off the kids down the street, and he aways
wants to be outside to greet them and show them that he has a ball in his mouth.
(He won't actually give it to them; he just wants them to know that he's got
it!)
Outlaw
loves to sleep on the bed with his humans! On these cool nights, he's turned
into a bit of a bed-hog. He's a titan (over 90 pounds), so he can stretch from
one end of the bed to the other. I frequently awaken in the middle of the night
to see a huge, gentle dog-head draped over my shoulder, and feel his length all
along my side.
In the wee hours of the morning, I woke up to hear him making little "yip, yip"
sounds and "running" in his sleep. He punched me softly in the side with each
stride, pushing himself a little closer to the edge of the bed. Finally, he got
a little too close, and with one last kick he nudged himself over, crashing in a
heap by the side of the bed. He was wedged between the bed and the wall with an
astonished look on his face—I had to climb out of bed to extricate him. He
stayed extra-close to my side for the rest of the night!
Outlaw needs an active home who will spend lots of time with him exercising,
chasing balls, and otherwise just having fun. He likes kids but might be a bit
overbearing for the littlest ones. He doesn’t care for the crate at all, but is
well behaved loose in the house when I am away. Oh, and of course he would
prefer that you have a king- or queen-sized bed – he’ll need plenty of room to
stretch out!
