Layla...
Meet Layla… a beautiful, petite 2 1/2-year-old Golden girl. Her dark red coat
has the prettiest golden highlights in the sunshine, and it is so soft and silky
that you will want to pet her all day long. She won’t mind if you do, either!
She
came to GRR from the San Antonio Animal Control Facility, and boy was it her
lucky day when she was sprung! She went straight from “jail” to the vet, where
she was spayed and declared a healthy girl. She is a bit on the skinny side, but
we are definitely putting some meat on her bones. She needs to gain just a bit
more to reach her ideal weight, which will probably be just under 50 pounds.
Layla marched right into our home (and our hearts) as if she had been here all
along. One of her most endearing quirks is her “hug.” She loves to come up while
you are sitting the couch and lay her head on your chest, or bury her face in
the crook of your arm. She is a snuggler and a love bug. She has been such an
easy houseguest! She is housebroken—she hasn’t even had a single accident, and
by only her second night here, she was going to the back door to ask for potty
breaks, just like her foster siblings.
Layla is completely trustworthy indoors. We crated her the first week she was
here, but soon realized that this little gem was perfectly well-behaved when
left alone. She prefers to be loose in the house, too—she will go into the
crate, but reluctantly, and she lets you know that it isn’t her preferred place
to relax! So now she has the run of the house when we are gone, and she tends to
spend her time in her favorite corner in the computer room. At night, she sleeps
in a bedroom with her foster siblings. She will snooze soundly until her foster
dad turns off the alarm clock in the morning.
Layla is very well mannered, but she gets excited when we come home after being
gone. It’s like she can’t contain herself after being alone. She spins around
and wants lots of hugs and kisses. She does jump up on you during these exciting
times, but we are working on that. Truthfully, it is her only bad habit!
She loves other dogs. She gets along with every dog that she has met while at
her foster home, especially her big foster bubba. She loves to rough-house with
him. We think that in her earlier life, she might have had to spend a lot of
time alone outside, because she doesn’t like to be left out in the backyard.
Even if her foster siblings are out there, she does her business and immediately
wants right back in. She only wants to stay outside if we sit out there with
her, and even then, she’ll look back at us every few minutes to make sure that
we haven’t sneaked back inside without her. She really enjoys going for walks
and seeing the sights around the neighborhood. Sometimes she does pull a little
bit, but all in all, she is a good walking partner. She also likes to go for car
rides and will jump right in.
Layla would love to have a family of her own, one who will shower her with love
and attention and make her an important part of their lives. If you think you
might be that family, let GRR know today!
