Casey
was found in San Antonio by a Good Samaritan who took care of the young dog
until GRR could find him a place. He is a "teenager,” just 7 to 9 months old and
about 50 pounds—but growing! We get a lot of comments about his good looks. He
has puppy-short, straw-colored fur and a really cute face with mobile ears,
bright eyes, and a black nose. His health is excellent. And he certainly has a
great attitude towards life. He is always happy, curious about almost
everything, and has lots of playful puppy energy.
A few days ago Casey discovered our glass puppy—that's the puppy that lives
behind our mirrors—and had great fun touching paws and licking tongues with it.
Glass puppy's tongue was odd, though, rather cold and hard. Casey also likes
people—a lot—and is very affectionate. When not chasing balls and sticks, he is
content to sit and be petted, or just to lie down in the same room with us. He
has met several toddlers and was interested in them without being at all
overwhelming (although one of the toddlers lives with an Irish wolfhound and is,
shall we say, used to lots of dog).
Casey socializes unusually well with other dogs and loves visits to the local
park where he can play with them. Our veterinarian has a cat that roams free in
the waiting room. Casey went nose-to-nose with the cat and showed only mild
curiosity. The cat gave a half-hearted hiss but was otherwise unfazed.
Casey should be happy in almost any family. But remember the "teenager"
description! He is still learning the rules of life. He needs lots of chew toys,
he pulls on his leash, and he tends to go deaf when asked to do something
booooriiing. He is now fully crate trained and stays in his crate whenever we
leave the house for more than an hour. In fact, he thinks of the crate as a
place of safety and often enters it voluntarily when he needs a nap. He is free
to roam the house when we are home. All in all, Casey is smart, wants to please,
and is learning fast. He’s lots of fun now and will be an even better dog when
he grows up.
