Glory,
whose friends now call him “G-Dawg,” has been one of the sweetest fosters ever
for us. He successfully completed his heartworm treatment at the end of
September. Our own GRR Golden, Max, suddenly passed away about a week after
Glory came to our house, and “G” has been a real blessing in helping us recover
from the loss.
Glory is a beautiful dog, athletic and playful. He is completely housebroken and
has free run of the house during the day. He is an all-night sleeper and very
quiet by nature—not a barker, though he’s not passive, either. He will retrieve
anything and loves to play, but he’s learned to respect our boundaries and knows
when to quit. If you rub his tummy, you’ve made a friend for life!
His good trick is sitting up on his haunches and giving high 5's and 10's. You
have to see this to believe it! His not-so-good trick is a tendency to
counter surf; we are working on that one. G has had limited exposure to cats
while living in our house; what we have seen appears to be curiosity, but he
does have a reputation as a cat chaser from a previous home. We know for a fact
that he DOES know about skunks… too bad we don't remember our lessons!
Glory is very friendly and respectful to other dogs and gets along with them
all. Our rat terrier makes sure of that! G is good around children—and he’s been
exposed to all ages, from babies to toddlers to older kids. He really enjoys
them, and they like him, too! Glory is slightly storm-phobic and gets very
nervous and needy during thunderstorms.
G knows his basic commands: SIT, STAY, COME. We are working on leash training
and he is making good progress. He has lost weight since being with GRR and is
now in great shape, trim and athletic. He’ll probably really enjoy getting more
exercise—he’s been under activity restrictions almost since he arrived at GRR,
due to his heartworms and the treatment for them.
Our sense is that Glory belongs in a house with kids of any age who will give
him the attention and petting he wants. So far, he’s been a model citizen and a
real blessing to his foster home!
