Adopted
Rodney...
Hi ya! My name is Rodney. My former owners dropped me off at the shelter without
telling anyone very much about me, so I can’t even say for sure how old I am. I
think I'm between 3 and 5 years old, though everyone says I have all the energy
of a puppy! But I'm learning manners from my 7-year-old Golden pal, Mason. He
was a little standoffish when I first came to live with him & his 2-year-old
buddy, Sebastian, maybe because he was wondering why I didn’t behave like him
right from the start! Could be because he's always lived inside, and I was
always outside, or could it be that I'm like 2 inches taller than him and weigh
just as much as he does (neener neener neener)... hee hee hee!
I had some health problems when I first arrived at GRR—ear infections, kennel
cough & fleabite dermatitis. Phew! But the GRR people gave me all my shots, got
me neutered (whatever that means) & gave me a great bath and some funky-smelling
pills to treat all my itching & my nasty cough (which I’m over now – yay!). See,
I used to have more bald spots than hair, but it's growing in pretty good now.
Oh, and we also found out I am something called “heartworm negative.” Now, I
know enough English to realize that “negative” often means “bad,” but for some
reason when people heard THAT “negative” they acted like they had won the
lottery!
I stay in a crate during the day while my foster people work, and I'm cool with
that... because when they get home, we PLAY!!! There's so many balls in the yard
that I can play with my new buddies for hours. There are some kids next door who
like to throw the ball for me, and I really dig that (although I'm still
learning to let it go once I get it). We also go for walks every day. I wasn't
quite sure how to work that whole leash thingy, but in case you forget how to
hold it, I'll pick it up & tote it around ‘til we're ready to go. Oh yeah, I get
two baths a week with this special shampoo, and first we play in the HOSE!!!!!
Not so sure about that whole "hair dryer" deal... I dig being wet!!!! Oh, and I
don't really know what a "pill-bug" is, but my foster parents call me that every
time they brush me and pet me!
My foster people keep telling me "good boy" because I go potty outside (I have
not had even one accident in the house!), and for treats, I get all the ice
cubes I can catch (a new trick I learned!!!). I only got scolded one time for
breaking something that wasn't mine. I do jump up now and then when I get
excited, but in my defense, I'm having to learn a bunch of new manners all at
once. Talk about an intensive summer school course – but I am pleased to say I
am getting good grades in every subject!
I used to get really anxious when me & the other guys went outside until I
figured out that my foster parents would let me back indoors. It’s wonderful
being allowed to come inside and I wanted to make sure I didn’t get stuck out in
a hot yard again! I don’t climb on the furniture here, but that's ok... they
made me a neat bed in the master bedroom. Mostly, I like the floor just fine (my
new pals make GREAT pillows!!!).
I promise I'll be a good boy... all I need is a forever home & some friends who
like to play as much as I do!
