ADOPTED
Fern...
Let’s get one thing straight—Fern is a
boy! Actually, we’ve taken to calling this bouncy 2-year-old “Vern,” just so
there’s no mistaking him for a girl. Surrendered to GRR by a loving owner who
had to move out of state on very short notice, Vern is 75 pounds of energy and
delight. He’s a tall, lean, muscular boy who loves to run and be wherever the
action is. Vern’s most striking feature is his classic red coat; his fur is not
too long, but is a dense red with great gold undertones. One look and you can
see why he is truly a “golden” retriever. True to his heritage, Vern relishes a
good game of fetch. Whether it’s a stick, a ball, or a weed from the garden,
throw it and Vern brings it right back! He’s been well cared-for and obviously
has had some training: he comes readily and sits on command (while he tries to
control all that energy and enthusiasm).
Vern has shown our two Goldens some new wrestling moves and loves to play-fight
with them. If someone comes to the door, Vern is on guard, and his deep,
rumbling bark would give any intruder second thoughts (after all, how are they
to know that the bark belongs to a giant cream-puff?). In the evening, this
lover looks for anyone who needs sympathy or has a lap to cuddle in. Vern
willingly goes into his crate at bedtime (although he’s not above taking a dog
cookie as a bribe) and sleeps peacefully through the night.
Vern is anxious to meet his forever family. He hopes they’ll have plenty of room
for running and love to spare. One look into his deep brown eyes and you’ll see
all the love he’s been saving up for just the right family.
