ADOPTED
Mackenzie...ust
a year and a half old, petite Mackenzie is GRR’s first Hurricane Golden. Her
young owners left New Orleans the Saturday before Katrina hit and came to ride
out the storm with relatives in Austin. By Tuesday, they realized that their
home was likely destroyed, their lives were going to be unsettled for a
while—and that it would be best to give Mackenzie to GRR while they worked out
what to do. (When our volunteer asked if Mackenzie had a bowl or any toys, the
owners told us they’d left in such a hurry they’d only brought her leash.)
Mackenzie has been well loved and very well cared for, and it shows! She’s very
loving and fun to be around. She’s been having a great time with our other
Goldens: Thor, Chloe, and Pearce. Thor tolerates her, Pearce loves to get her
going with games of bitey-head and tug-of-war, and Chloe just showers her with
kisses!
We have a cat, too, and Mackenzie is very excited to see Fat Kitty. The feeling
is not mutual! – Kitty pretty much keeps her distance. Mackenzie wouldn’t hurt
Kitty; she just wants to sniff her all over.
Mackenzie is good in the house— she does not counter surf or get in the trash.
However, she has been known to snooze in the leather chair in the family room!
She loves Cheez Whiz stuffed into a rubber Kong bone, and she does well in the
crate when nobody is home.
Mackenzie is a true retriever – she loves to chase down and retrieve balls. She
is still a puppy and very active and bouncy. She’ll make a wonderful new
addition to any family who wants a peppy young girl and is willing to keep up
with some training – she learns easily, and she’s very eager to master new
things and show you what she can do!
