Merrie Once upon a time there was a lovely blonde princess named Merrie. Her hair was thick and wavy. Her huge brown eyes were filled with love. She loved to run and play. She loved to take baths, and especially to be brushed. She lived with a sweet family who loved her very much, but as time went by, the children grew up and moved away. They packed up for college and told her she couldn’t come along. They don’t allow dogs in college—not even Golden princesses.

Merrie’s humans worked long hours and had to keep her on a chain in the yard for a long, long time each day. She was very afraid of loud noises, like thunderstorms, and she would break loose and run away. There was a church day school nearby, though, and they always took her in. She loved to snuggle next to the children as they learned. Merrie tried to be a very good dog in church school, hoping that someday she could go with her boys when they went off to college. But it was not to be. The day came when the dogcatcher picked her up before she could make it to the school, and she even had to spend a few days in doggie jail.

The jailers told Merrie’s owners very sternly that she could not escape any more. The owners knew that she was VERY lonely, and that they hadn’t been taking good care of her. They knew she deserved a home full of love and children and companionship. So they called GRR to see if they could find her some new children to love.

Merrie has been living in her foster home for about a month now. She is so happy! She has been a perfect lady. She is very relaxed with a 2-year-old little girl, her Golden foster brother Jake, and the two cats. She will lie for hours while her foster mom brushes her, and she even stands in the shower for baths (you have to watch the splash zone, though)! Since she had never, ever lived in a house, she was not potty trained—but she learned in a single day! She is a very smart girl! Merrie loves to walk but doesn’t play fetch. She stays very close to her humans, especially her foster mom. When it storms, she shakes like a leaf and likes to snuggle really tight with a large human.

Merrie is a calm, mellow mature girl. She is usually the sea of tranquility in the tsunami of a household with a toddler! She loves the cats and generally leaves them alone except for the occasional lick. About once a day she engages in some spirited romping with Jake—but she is clearly the one in charge, and she decides when enough is enough.

Merrie has never snapped at anyone, human or animal. She helped her foster mom hostess a birthday party with eight (!) 2-year-old guests and was just wonderful with all of them. She really needs a forever family with children, where everyone will pay lots of attention to her. She is a love and is SO happy to be living inside now. Merrie is a joy in every way!
