Ramzzy You can best summarize Ramzy in two words: sweet gentleman.

Ramzy is a real teddy bear. He loves people so much, and he just loves to be around them all the time. He is not clingy, though, and he does not jump on people or furniture. All bets are off during a thunderstorm, however! He will make a beeline for the closest open closet door or bathtub, just in case of a tornado, of course. He knows basic manners, including “sit,” “shake,” “lay down,” “stay,” and “no” – and a few not-so-typical (although highly useful!) ones, like “go get in your bed” and “out of the kitchen.” He is a fairly low-energy boy, content to lie at your feet while you watch TV. This is in direct contrast to his high-energy foster sister, who can be a bit overwhelming for him at times!

Speaking of his foster sister, the canine queen, Ramzy prefers just to let her do her thing. She constantly tries to get him to play, but he is not too interested. His 6 years of maturity are definitely too classy for her 3 years of extended puppyhood. He prefers human interaction to canine interaction. We have once or twice enticed him to retrieve, but he hasn’t figured out why he should bring the object back! He does love to run after toys, though. With a little work, this boy could be a great retriever, given his propensity for putting things in his mouth… In fact, his favorite thing to do is to walk around with his “baby” in his mouth. He carries “her” lovingly everywhere. If he can’t find his “baby,” a squishy ball will do, and he will always greet you at the door with a toy in his mouth. He has an obsession with putting soft objects in his mouth, and this is your warning to hide your dirty socks! Fortunately (unlike many Goldens), he has no interest in shredding them—he just totes them around. Ramzy says not to be offended, though…he just loves how his people smell!

Being such a “people dog,” Ramzy would be just fine as an only canine child. He would probably do well with children, based on his gentle nature and interactions with the neighborhood children, but his size (105 lbs.!) might be a bit much for the smaller fries. At this time, he does not do well with cats. Just ask our resident tabby, who has set up camp in our guest bedroom…with the door shut!

You might think that Ramzy-boy looks a little more like a Labrador than a Golden, but that is because a wayward “professional” groomer thought it would be better for him to be close-shaven than to sport his what-we-believe-to-be gorgeous fluffy honey coat (check out his plumy tail). He’s a little shy about it, though! Ramzy is a bit heavy, and needs to shed a few pounds, but he LOVES a good walk, and will go as long as you want. Ramzy is a little afraid of the water, but he is so trusting of his people, he will go as far as he can without taking his feet off the bottom. We are working on teaching him to swim, because this would be a great way for him to find that sleeker physique underneath, without putting undue stress on his joints.

Ramzy is a very lovable boy, and he has lots of love to give. Any family would be lucky to get this guy!
