ADOPTED

Willie was turned into the animal shelter by his owners because “he just keeps running away.” He was a skinny boy with cuts all over his face (we don’t know where those came from) and he was SO eager to get out of jail! He snuggled right up to our volunteer for some love. He was so chipper, in fact, that we didn’t worry too much about his little cough – until it got worse, and turned out to be pneumonia! After a few days of care at the vet, where he impressed everyone with his great attitude, Willie felt much better and happily headed to his foster home, and it’s been onward and upward ever since. Here’s what this handsome red boy has to say:

“Hi everyone!! My name is Willie. I am pretty sure I used to have a different name, but Willie is a cool new name, and I have learned that it’s mine! I am about 2 years old. I love to run and play and be active. My favorite thing in the whole world is morning! I can't wait until Ma gets into the shower, because that means it is PLAY TIME!! I stretch and then run around the house like crazy! My Golden foster sister, Dixie, and I like to play what Ma calls the "Daytona Dog-hundred.” We run laps around the house at about 100 mph and take turns wrecking into each other. It is so fun! Sometimes, if Ma isn't looking, I‘ll hop into the shower with her. I love the water, and besides, I think that she might want a little company. Her bathtub isn't that big, though, so she always asks me to get out.
I really live to make my people happy. I am really good at sitting. I understand "stay," but that isn't much fun, because it usually means my people are going somewhere I can't go, but I am learning to live with that. Anyway, I figured out that my Ma always comes back for me, so I feel better about it. I am also really, really good in the house. I haven't had one single accident! I do stay in a crate during the day, but Ma lets me stay out on the weekends if she is only going to be gone for a few hours. I am showing her that I can be trusted! Anyway, Ma says she wants to talk now, but just so you know, I can't wait to have a family of my own. I am ready to snuggle and love on them (including the four-legged family members)!"

Willie's Foster Ma, Janette, says:
Willie did a great job of introducing himself. He is a big boy (although he could still stand to gain several pounds), and he’s full of what I call "Golden love.” If I am lying on the couch, he’ll walk up to me and put his head on my chest for a little affection. If I don't pet him, he will crawl up beside me and lick me. He really wants nothing more than a stable home and someone to love him. He has excellent house manners. As he said himself, he hasn't had a single accident! He never begs at the table, but if you eat dinner on the couch, he thinks that it might be acceptable to ask for just a little bite! He did like to escape out my front door at first, and of course he didn’t know his brand-new name, but now that he has lived with me for a few weeks, he doesn’t run out the door if I tell him to stay. He is full of puppy energy, and he’d do best in an active home where he’d get plenty of exercise. He is extremely smart: I spent about 2 hours one evening with him and he mastered the “stay” command. When he has had some additional training, he will be an even more perfect Golden companion than he already is!!
