Remembered
Kelly passed away a week ago, and we would like to honor not only her contributions to our household, but – and perhaps more importantly – her contributions to children in difficult situations.
The Rachel Foundation rebuilds families, one at a time. Our goal is to provide each child with the opportunity to have a loving relationship with both parents, where possible. We provide residential and other programs to heal parent-child bonds shattered by alienation in high-conflict divorce and abduction.
Kelly was a source of comfort to these children – a volunteer therapy dog.

Kelly's Story:
Kelly
belonged to a family who had several small children and decided they just didn’t
have the time for her—and so, she came to GRR. We have been blessed to have her
living with us for about 3 weeks now. She is such a delightful gal and a perfect
indoor dog! We have enjoyed her company very much. When she instantly bonded
with our other two Goldens (male and female) as well as our three children, ages
10, 5, and 4, we knew she was quite a special girl. She has the classic Golden
personality: easy going, a good sport, flexible, smart, gets along great with
everyone, great ball retriever and just plain loveable. We are always sneaking
in a hug or two because she is just so irresistible.
Our kids play endlessly with Kelly, and she always cooperates despite their
silly antics—she just takes it all in stride and plays along with them. Kelly
loves to be cuddled and frequently can be found nuzzled up to one of the kids
for some one-on-one time. She is totally trustworthy around the kids as well as
the other dogs—never a single sign of any snippiness or dominance. Kelly is also
completely housebroken and knows her basic obedience commands, though a review
course might be helpful… She loves the good life, and from the first day, she
could be found reclining comfortably on the furniture as if she owned the place!
She is about 7 years old and in excellent health.
Kelly's new family will surely enjoy how great she is as an indoor dog. For the
most part, she is calm and laid back, but you’ll see (or should I say "hear")
that she likes to bark when the doorbell rings or she sees activity out the
windows. Usually, though, we can tell her to stop barking and she will do so.
Kelly is very frightened during thunderstorms. She wants to be near her people
then, and feels better if you sit on the floor with her and give her cuddles and
reassurance. Her new family will need understanding and patience during these
rare but scary moments.
To sum it all up, Kelly is too good to be true! She loves people and other dogs,
and she’ll adjust easily to her new home and forever family. (And she did live
with two cats at her previous home and did great with them, so if you have
kitties, they’ll approve of her, too!)
