ADOPTED

Zeke is a 5-year-old Golden boy who came into GRR after he was found wandering the streets and ended up at the shelter. Serious complications from his neuter led to a hospital stay and some significant additional surgery for Zeke, but he has recovered splendidly—although he still occasionally sleeps on his back, spreadeagled (maybe he always did this?!).

It is hard to believe that Zeke’s former owner didn’t go to the ends of the earth to find him. He is a wonderful, well-trained boy with a happy-go-lucky attitude, a desire to please, and bursts of puppy playfulness.

The Zekester has all the typical Golden passions: tennis balls, car rides, walkies, snacks. He plays a good game of fetch and walks perfectly on a leash (and follows along well off the leash too, responding immediately to a “Hey!” if he starts to wander). He can run like the wind and gleefully rolls around in the grass. I think he would be happiest where he could get lots of physical activity, along with nonstop tummy and chin rubs.

For a male, Zeke is a little guy, just 60 pounds or so. He’s a beautiful redhead with a black spot on his tongue and a tail that curls way up. He gets a little impatient when groomed—it’s just not his favorite thing. He’s perfectly house-trained; his only “accident” occurred following surgery, when he was medicated and disoriented.

Like many a Golden, Zeke does have a stubborn streak that shows up occasionally! He doesn’t like to go into that crate, so was initially confined to the laundry room. Now he has the run of the house, and his only indiscretion has been sleeping on the couch when we’re away. Busted by a warm spot and a crumpled blanket for evidence.

Zeke has had limited contact with other dogs, cats, and kids, but he seems to be very interested and friendly around one and all. It dawned on me after a week that I have never heard him bark! Not once!

Whoever becomes Zeke’s forever family will be the lucky owners of a fun, happy fellow. He will most likely move in seamlessly and make friends immediately.
