Conan came to GRR when his original owner could not care for him and gave him to some family friends. These folks thought he was just fantastic, but they wanted him to have more room and more attention than they could give him, so they turned to GRR. Conan was a delight in foster care from the start, and here is his foster mom’s report:

Conan is a big and extremely handsome boy. He has a shiny, deep mahogany coat, with a cowlick running right up his forehead. He has bright white eyes and teeth. At 92 pounds, he is muscular and strong—but as regal and serious as he appears, he is actually all heart and as gentle as a butterfly.

Soon after Conan arrived in our home, we learned that he needed surgery on both of his knees. Thanks to generous donations to GRR, Conan will receive both of those surgeries. He has already recovered quite well from his first surgery and should have his second soon. When Conan recovers from both surgeries, he will be as active and capable as any other Golden his age. He’ll just need some daily medicine to help him maintain good joint health long-term.

When Conan isn't in recovery, he loves to swim and fetch. When he fetches the ball he brings it right back and drops it for you. Conan knows a few commands, and "walk" is at the top of his list. Conan walks well on the lead and is not bothered by other dogs and barking. He is friendly with other dogs and doesn't seem to mind cats that might cross his path.

Conan has been perfectly trustworthy in the house. He was house-trained and well-mannered from day one. He doesn't bark, beg, counter-surf, or climb onto the furniture. Conan has a quirky fascination with anything that sprays from an aerosol can. This is sometimes the highlight of his day! He is definitely wary of the vacuum cleaner and is happy to keep his distance from that strange, sucking monster.

If you want to make fast friends with Conan, you can scratch him under his chin. He loves this! Give it a minute and he will fall asleep standing up. He is also adorable when his curiosity causes him to cock his head 45 degrees.

Conan is going to make a wonderful family member. Anyone would be lucky to share their home with Conan.
