ADOPTED

Ginger and her brother Spice are gorgeous Golden littermates who came to GRR when their owner could no longer care for them. Their story begins about five years ago. Mr. and Mrs. K had been enjoying retirement, traveling to places they had often dreamed of—but unfortunately, during one of their stops at home, Mr. K suffered a serious fall, and his injuries were so severe that he’s now in a nursing home.

Mrs. K was left alone in the house they had shared for many years. She had always had dogs and cats in the past, so a friend suggested she get another pet for company—and even arranged for her to visit some puppies. Of course, like anyone who sees a Golden fuzzball, Mrs. K was powerless to resist and decided to bring home not one but TWO pups: a girl (Ginger) and a boy (Spice)! As the puppies quickly doubled in size and then doubled again, Mrs K and her furry kids headed off to obedience school. Spice and Ginger quickly learned the basics, but Mrs K began to have health issues of her own, so the young duo did not proceed beyond successful graduation from puppy kindergarten. And as they grew up, Mrs K found herself leaving them in the yard more and more—she just wasn’t strong enough for long walks with two big dogs! Finally, she decided to move out of state to be near her only son. Realizing she couldn’t take her beloved Goldens with her, she called GRR for help.

Ginger and Spice are beautiful! They have thick, shiny red coats, they’ve had regular vet care with heartworm and flea prevention, and even their teeth are clean and shiny. And they have the personalities to match their looks. They’re extremely affectionate, and they love to give you attention and get it, too. They are a bit overweight (the results of lots of treats and not enough activity), but those excess pounds will melt right off, given proper diet and exercise.

We have the pleasure of fostering both these dogs, and considering they were almost exclusively outside pets, they have adapted amazingly well to their new situation—living in a new environment (indoors, not out in the yard), in a brand-new home, and with three new Golden friends. They are no couch potatoes! They interact well with our three very active Goldens and love to run and play. Amazingly, we haven’t had a single housebreaking accident, either.

Ginger and Spice have grown up together and would do best in a home with another dog for play and company. They’re very active dogs and would love a family who can give them plenty of exercise, brisk games of fetch, fun & upbeat training, and of course, lots of petting during quiet times. After so many years spent largely alone, they could not be more delighted with all the human companionship they’re enjoying now. You couldn’t ask for a better Golden addition to the right family!
