ADOPTED
Doc
Rivers... Ten-year-old Doc lived with the same family all his life, but a
divorce, a move to an apartment, and frequent travel made it hard for the owner
to keep the big red boy… so he called GRR.
Here’s what his foster
family has to say:
Doc is a BIG dog, weighing in at 100 lbs., with a big heart to match. Before
coming to GRR, Doc was an only dog in a family with no children, and he was kept
strictly outdoors. Things have certainly changed fast! Now he is staying with
our large family of two adults, four kids, three dogs and a cat. He is an inside
dog who goes out to do his business, play, and go for walks.
So far, Doc has discovered a few things: He likes to be indoors amongst people.
He absolutely loves to play and he likes being around other dogs. He does not
interact with our cat; in fact, he pretty much ignores her. He has learned to
take walks fairly well—he pulls a little when we start out, then settles
quickly. We are working on this and he is improving rapidly. He behaves nicely
in the house: he does not jump on furniture, counter surf, chew on inappropriate
things, bark at doorbells, or mug visitors at the front door. He has a few toys
he likes to carry around, in particular his bright orange football, as you can
see in the photos! He plays fetch with people and keep-away with our other dogs.
He is fairly gentle around our kids, but given how big he is, he could easily
knock over small children.
Doc’s previous owner commented that Doc is a fast learner, and as we can tell
you, that’s the truth! Doc has adjusted well to his new situation with all of
its many changes, and he’s taken to instruction better than most dogs we’ve
fostered. Doc’s 10 years old, but he has the mind and energy of a much younger
dog. He’s smart, energetic, playful, and well behaved. Doc will be an ideal pet
for a family with either older or “dog savvy” children and other dogs.
