ADOPTED
Pollyanna
was surrendered to GRR by a Good Samaritan who noticed her near his
warehouse north of Austin one day. As he was loading up to go to work, he saw
a little blonde Golden hiding around the corner. She looked well cared for,
so he
figured somebody would come looking… but she was still there the next day, first
coming out, then scampering away to hide in the bushes. A day later she was
confident to come out for a pat and a bowl of food; and then a whole week went
by while he fed her each day and hunted for an owner. No luck, so he called
GRR.
Pollyanna quickly settled into her foster home and began kicking up her heels
like a typical young Golden! Some of her favorite activities are: playing hard
with her foster sister and brother; learning to swim; and engaging in typical
Golden kleptomania, with a focus on sock-stealing and underwear-pilfering.
Here’s the latest from
Pollyanna’s foster mom:
Pollyanna is tall and slim, already much taller than the average female, and
weighs in at 62 pounds. When she fills out, 72 to 75 pounds would not be a
surprise—and that without any fat on her. She is a real looker, with her fringy
ears and pretty gold coat. And as for her perky personality…
When I think of Pollyanna, I can’t help but start singing that song from “The
Sound of Music” – you know the one, “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?” ….
Modified slightly, of course:
How do you solve a problem like Pollyanna?
How do you catch a cloud and bring it down?
How do you find a word that means Pollyanna?
A flibbertigibbet!
A will o’ the wisp!
A clown!
Many a thing you know you'd like to tell her,
Many a thing she ought to understand.
But how do you make her stay
And listen to all you say,
How do you keep a wave upon the sand?
Oh, how do you solve a problem like Pollyanna?
How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?
Unpredictable as weather,
She's as flighty as a feather,
She's a darling,
She's a demon,
She's a lamb.
She'd out-pester any pest,
Drive a hornet from his nest,
She could throw a whirling dervish
Out of whirl.
She is gentle,
She is wild,
She's a riddle.
She's a child.
She's a headache!
She's an angel!
She's a girl.
No other words could more aptly describe this one-year-old. And just like Maria,
whose antics caused everyone to throw their hands up at times, Pollyanna is
nevertheless totally lovable .…. As well as a work in progress, just like every
young Golden ever made. In other words, she isn’t really a problem… just a
puppy!
She is already wonderful on the leash, and gets along great with other dogs. And
she’s very willing to learn. Of course, she has the attention span (short)—and
exuberance level (high and long-lasting!)—of a very young dog. So, while she
knows there are things she shouldn’t do—jump on people and plant very wet kisses
on you mid-jump; paw you for a pat; investigate the trash; chew on and shred
inappropriate things; and occasionally forget that peeing is for the great
outdoors—she sometimes gets so excited in the moment that she forgets.
So -- how DO you solve a “problem” like Pollyanna? You give her patience and
time and training, enjoy her puppy antics (now, how did that cache of my
underwear wind up hidden under the sofa cushion???), and realize that you are
going to end up with the very best dog ever!
