ADOPTED

Lucy is a 60-pound, honey-colored Golden with hints of red in her fur. Her soft, thick coat is one of her great beauties—but she definitely isn’t vain about it, and prefers to take her siestas in the muddiest corner of our yard, which has earned her the nickname “Mud-muffin.” Despite her muddy ways, she always seems to smell really good, something that everyone comments on. Her distinctive perfume might be attributed to her favorite chew-bone, which leaves her smelling like maple syrup ... giving rise to her second nickname, “Pancakes.”

Lucy wants to be loved so much, and she treasures being petted and hugged. She is so happy to see us in the morning when she wakes up that her whole body wags (not just her tail). She also loves long hikes and is learning how to retrieve tennis balls and catch them in her mouth. She gets along well with her Golden foster brother, the 95-pound Sully. But Sully is more like Charlie Brown, and Lucy definitely runs the show at our house! Lucy has kept Sully on the run for the past 2 weeks like it was basic training. In the process, Sully has lost 5 pounds trying to impress her.

We recently took both dogs to our log cabin in the mountains and they had more of a vacation than we did. Lucy got to go hiking and swim in the clear waters of the river nearby. She traveled well in the car, only taking short naps. She wanted to look out the window and see everything she was experiencing. Sully just slept (boring!). Lucy seemed to show a sense of loyalty by keeping me company as we traveled down the highway with her eyes wide open and her tongue fully ejected. This is her signature “I’m happy” expression: tongue out, entire body wagging, just waiting for somebody to love.
