ADOPTED
Samson...This
beautiful light blond, 11-month-old Golden boy comes to GRR from loving owners
who got him at just 12 weeks old, from a relative who thought a brand-new puppy
would make a wonderful gift for their brand-new baby. Oops!! Giving a puppy to
new parents is like handing them a second baby! The family realized they
couldn’t give Samson enough time, so they called GRR. They did a wonderful job
of raising him, though, and I have been so pleased with his behavior. He shares
our home with three other Goldens (Thor, age 7, Chloe, age 7, and Pearce, age
4); Molly, a fluffy little mixed breed (age 8); our cat, Fat Kitty; and four
humans (two grown-ups and two little girls, ages 12 and 9). That’s four more
dogs, one more person, and one tubby cat more than Samson is used to—but he has
done a great job of fitting right in!
Here’s Samson’s brag book:
* He does not jump on you at all!! This is practically a first at my house with
fosters, and it’s so nice… and especially impressive for an 11-month-old.
* He knows “sit,” “stay,” and “come.”
* He has not tried to get on the furniture.
* He does not counter-surf.
* He settles down very quickly and keeps busy with a nice Nylabone.
* He is housebroken and we have not had a single accident, even though he was
not neutered when he came to us. I was afraid he might try to mark in the
house—nope! Not even one little squirt.
Now, he’s not entirely perfect, so just to be complete, here’s his naughty-habit
list: *Barking.
That’s it! He does not like the crate and lets you know it. Some Goldens just do
not take well to crating, and he’s one of them. I’m working with this by
baby-gating him instead, with another dog for company. He likes that much
better. At night, we even let him sleep loose on the floor with everyone else,
and we are ALL getting a good night’s sleep! Outside, he also likes another dog
for company—being alone is not his cup of tea! He’ll stand at the back door and
bark to get another warm body out there with him—or just to come inside. This
boy is genuinely a Companion Animal!
…and so, here’s his wish list for a forever home:
* Kids and a mom and dad to play with.
* Another dog for play and company.
* A nice warm bed inside.
* A Nylabone or two.
That should do it! If you can give him that, Samson will make a lifelong
commitment to be the best dog he can be!
