ADOPTED
Missy...
Miss Hazel, better known as Missy, joined the GRR family last month, after we
received an e-mail and a picture from the Christ-Yoder Shelter in Buchanan Dam.
A Golden female had been found stray out in the country and delivered to the
shelter by animal control. Could we help? We could! Missy was given her official
GRR number on January 10, and she visited the veterinarian the very next day.
Unfortunately, she was found to be heartworm positive—so in addition to
receiving her vaccinations, she began her heartworm injection treatment on
January 12th. Her GRR foster parents are seeing her through the process, and
they report that she willingly takes her medication & is responding beautifully
to the heartworm treatment. A full recovery is expected, and the treatment has
not dampened Missy’s spirits in the slightest.
Missy is a wonderful, dainty, very self-confident 6-year-old girl with a lively
personality. She has a great temperament. She is completely housebroken and not
a bit shy about letting it be known when she has to go outside. Her appetite is
now very solid, and she enjoys her two meals per day. She is a trustworthy young
lady who enjoys her tennis balls, bone-shaped Kongs, donut-shaped toy, and a
recently added rubber Frisbee-like disc. Missy calmly greets guests at the door,
loves the attention given, and then demonstrates proper etiquette. She is very
comfortable with children as well as adults, and quite social with other dogs of
myriad shapes and sizes. She made many friends during a recent visit to a
nursing home, and has been invited back. All in all, Missy is a very sociable
being.
Missy has adjusted to her new environment admirably, and responds well to
“Come,” “Sit,” “Down,” “Stay,” “No,” and “Off.” Although she apparently was not
leash trained, she now responds beautifully to a new term in her active
vocabulary—“Heel.” She is a very bright, quick learner. She enjoys being
groomed, from towel drying to brushing to trimming where trimming is necessary.
Additionally, she loves her trips in the car, showing that she is a superb
traveler.
Missy is the epitome of why Gold Ribbon Rescue exists: to rescue, nurture and
find loving, suitable forever homes for these beautiful dogs. Of course, we need
your help with that last part, so if Missy sounds like the dog for you, please
let us know!
