Lexus
is an active, playful 4-year old Golden with a very attractive face and a medium
length coat. She loves chew toys, people, other dogs, tummy rubs and all forms
of petting and scratching.
Although she's an active girl, she always has time for some affection. She's not
aloof at all; she wants to be able to see you, better yet, be in the same room,
and better still, be right there while you pet her.
She's house trained, with no accidents during her entire stay here. And she
knows the difference in chew toys and shoes since she hasn't chewed on anything
that she shouldn't.
She's also crate trained. At bedtime, she goes into her crate voluntarily and
sleeps quietly through the night. We keep the crate is in the bedroom by the
bed. At other times, she needs a little coaxing with a toy or a treat, but then
she settles down and naps.
Even at
4 years of age, Lexus still has some puppy in her, and will put a paw on you to
try to keep you from leaving. She will also playfully mouth the side of your
hand, but knows how to do it gently.
No counter surfing, but I have seen her act interested in things in the kitchen,
so I've been training her that “shoo” means for her and my other two dogs to go
into the next room and wait until they're called to come back in.
Lexus does well on a leash. She doesn't try to lead, but is interested in
everything and will need some training unless you donut mind her stopping to
smell things or greet other people or dogs.
She knows “sit” but sometimes gets it confused with “lie down” and then wants a
tummy rub. At first, you may find that she's nervous about going outside by
herself, because she thinks she won’t be let back in. She will get over this
with a little encouragement, although she still would prefer that you come with
her and play in the yard.
Other dogs: no problem, Lexus wants to play with them. You may hear her bark as
she tries to coax them into romping around with her.
Cats: she wants to play with my indoor cat, but understands what can happen if
the cat wants to be left alone.
Lexus would do best in a some with another dog to play with, older children who
will be her best friends, take her for walks, romp in the yard, play tug-of-war,
etc. She probably would be too active for smaller children, unless they're used
to being around dogs.
