ADOPTED
Dixie...
When Animal Control picked this petite Golden girl up, she was wearing a collar
with the name “Dixie” scratched into it and an out-of-date rabies tag—and that’s
all we know about her past. She’d clearly been missing out on attention for a
while, as her claws were L-O-N-G, and she had calluses on her bottom as if she’d
had to spend a lot of time sitting in a confined space with nothing to do. We
can tell, though, that somebody really did care once: this little gal had been
spayed, she’s perfectly housebroken, she knows a few commands, and she loves and
trusts people. She even does fine with grooming—she’s a little wiggly, but hey,
it’s attention, so it must be good! She even let her foster dad Dave clip those
grizzly-bear claws.
Now we’ll let Dixie take it from here:
“Hi Everyone! Let me tell you some more about myself. First, I sure am happy to
be out of that shelter and living with such a great family. I am never in a bad
mood and I just want to play and enjoy every minute. I am definitely a People
Dog —the other dogs here are very nice and I like them, but I’d rather be by
your side. I come running as fast as I can when I hear my name. I am content
just to lie on the living room floor to keep you company, but if you offer me a
stuffed animal or two to roll around with, so much the better. (Fetching isn’t
my cup of tea—not yet, anyway.) I just adore cuddling, especially with my foster
mom Sherri—one time Dave came home late and there I was all settled down on the
bed with Sherri, fast asleep. I’d actually love to be a lap dog and every time I
see my foster mom or dad sitting on the sofa or in an easy chair, I walk right
over and suggest that perhaps they might like a nice furry dog in their lap?
Well, I think it is a good idea anyway!
My family has cats, too. Sometimes I try to get them to play with me. They
aren’t always agreeable and I confess, sometimes my foster mom or dad has to
remind me to stop persuading them to play. I wouldn’t ever hurt them, though—in
fact, Roscoe, the old tabby cat, sleeps right next to me.
Now as you heard, I didn’t have the best of care before I got to GRR. Somebody
forgot to give me my Heartgard for a while, so the vet found out I have
heartworms. Ouch! Still, I hear that I just need a couple of shots and a month
or so without too much strenuous activity, and I will be good as new. That
doesn’t sound so bad! The vet says she’s sure there’s a family who will like me
so much they will be careful to remind me that I can’t run around like crazy
after I get the shots. She said that you can make up for the lack of vigorous
play with extra cuddling and attention. Since snuggling with my humans is my
very favorite thing anyway, that sounds all right to me. If you’re looking for a
peppy young girl and you love to give pets, please come to meet me soon!
Love,
Dixie
