ADOPTED
Ki...Hi
there! I’m a 3 ½-year-old boy named “Ki” (rhymes with “Hi”) and am having lots
of fun at my foster home. We have another golden that I hang out with, although
she’s a lot older than I am. She kind of teaches me the rules of the house and
I’m really good friends with her already! We have a cat here, too, and we get
along really well. I haven’t paid too much attention to the hamster, but I love
to spend time with the boy and girl who live here. They give me lots of love and
attention, and that really makes me smile!
I had lived since I was a puppy with a wonderful couple way up north. Although I
know they loved me a whole lot, I’ve had a problem with allergies and the vet
bills were getting a bit too much for them. My foster family and a new vet are
working hard to get my allergies under control and I’m already starting to feel
like a new dog. I’ve always been a pretty handsome fellow but now, well, the
possibilities are endless!
Since I’d been living outside most of my life, my foster mom & dad didn’t know
what to expect as far as my potty habits. I sure surprised them—I haven’t had a
single accident in the house and I proved to them that I was very reliably
housebroken. I’m a smart boy and I know that outside is where I do my business
and play, and inside is where I hang out with everyone and lay around. I love to
stretch out on the bedroom floor at bedtime and don’t make a peep until the
alarm goes off in the morning.
Speaking of play, one of my very favorite things to play is fetch. You throw
that ball or toy across the grass and I’ll trot over to get it, and then bring
it on back to you. You can take it right out of my mouth and throw it again—over
and over! I also impressed my foster mom by showing her how well I clean up
after myself. There were three of my toys laying around in the backyard and I
picked up all three in my mouth, at one time, and carried them to the back porch
where there’s a basket to keep them until it’s time to play again. She gave me a
big smile, which made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Did I tell you I’m a real happy boy? Doesn’t take much to make me smile! My
foster brother said that my name should have been “Chopper”, like a helicopter.
When I get lots of pets and hugs, I can wag my tail faster than any dog you’ve
ever seen (I really should go on Letterman’s show), and he is convinced my
backend is going to just rise up into the air sometime, since I have so much
speed going on back there! We all get a good laugh out of that one!
I love kids of all ages! I get to go to soccer practices and games with my
foster family and am very well behaved. I sit quietly by my foster mom most of
the time, but love when I get pets and hugs from all the kids. I don’t really
like it when little ones hang or pull on me too much, so might be better off in
a home with older kids. I don’t get mean about it, or anything, but just try to
pull away—everyone needs their own space, right?! People always comments about
how beautiful I am—they can tell I’m a really good dog! I don’t know too many
commands, although my foster mom is working with me a little on that. I do know
“stay” and I walk right along side her when we go out for our frequent walks.
She even has to bunch up the leash in her hands because I don’t pull on it, not
one single bit!
I’m kind of indifferent to treats and like to savor my meals. When I do get a
treat, I take it very gently. I heard my foster mom tell someone that she just
lays it on my tongue and I gently close my mouth around it. Yum! I’m on a very
restrictive diet right now, which isn’t much fun, but I like the food and the
occasional treats I’m allowed to have until they figure out what’s causing my
allergies. Because of some of the allergy medication I’ve been taking for a
while, I’m a little round around the middle and could stand to lose some weight.
My diet is on track and I only have about 10 more pounds to lose!
Oh, and did I tell you that I hardly bark at all? And I usually only do bark if
Frances, my golden foster sister, barks first. You won’t hear much out of me,
that’s for sure (except for the swoosh of my tail as I wag it ferociously!!) And
I don’t have any of those other bad habits like counter surfing, jumping up on
the furniture or chewing on inappropriate things. My family thinks I’m just
about perfect!
For now, everything is going great! I’ll keep on my diet and be back to you with
an update later. In the meantime, give consideration to making me a part of your
own family, but only if you want a laid-back, well-behaved young man who wants
nothing more than to make you as happy as I am!
