Jack is a big red Golden who loves petting from his family more than anything else! He also loves going for walks and runs and riding in the car. Like most young Goldens, he has his active times of day, but he settles down quickly after exercising. We crated him when he first moved in with us, but not any more—he has full run of the house, day and night. He sleeps peacefully right through the night in our bedroom or on the bathroom floor. (Of course, he would prefer to be on the bed with us, but he knows better!) For all his size, Jack is very sweet and gentle with our 20-pound terrier and our tiny (5-pound) 18-year-old kitty.

When Jack came to us, he had a tendency towards “leaking” a bit from holding his urine too long. It turned out that he had “sand” – mineral crystals – in his bladder, which caused frequent infections and painful urination. Hence the reason for holding it in so long—you probably would, too, if it really hurt to go to the bathroom! We put him on the right medication and the right diet, and things have cleared up well. He can still be a little reluctant to go out, but we just walk out the back door with him, say "go pee," and he does his business. In fact, when the urge strikes, he will bump his head against your arm or leg continually until you let him out. He’ll need regular vet checks to make sure his pH level remains where it should, but as long as you keep up with that, he should be fine.

Jack loves seeing new people, though he feels a bit protective of his foster Mom if a strange man comes to the door or we meet someone on the street we don't know. He just needs to be sure they are OK! Jack would be great in a home with older kids to play and run with, or with a couple who enjoys running or swimming. He just loves action. Wherever he goes, he’ll be a lovable and well-loved member of the family. We have really enjoyed having him in our home!
