Cherise
Sweet, loving, and playful, 18-month-old Cherise is a petite blonde with a wavy,
short to medium length coat. She was found running stray in Austin, frightened
and skinny. Now that she’s in a safe place, she’s quickly gaining confidence.
She is filling out, too: she weighs around 60 pounds now, but she still has a
ferocious appetite—she is always ready for a meal. In time, we know she will
learn that she can rely on breakfast and supper every day, and not worry that
tomorrow she might have to do without!
Cherise is a very happy dog with a constantly wagging tail. She has a ton of
energy but can also be a lap dog when it is not play time. She definitely loves
attention, but she’s also totally happy just to sit near you—unlike our Golden
Abby, who must be loved on at all times. She has gotten along well with everyone
she has met in the 10 days she has been living with us, including several other
dogs. She is fascinated with cats, though, and loves chasing ours around the
house and backyard. We are trying to break her of that habit.
She didn’t quite have the housebreaking thing down pat when she moved in, but we
are happy to say that she is now very close to being totally housebroken. Yay!
We’re sure that, very soon, she will fully understand that outside is where you
go to do all your business, every time.
As I mentioned before, Cherise is a very good eater…. So good that she has found
her way to the counter tops several times. Yes, she is definitely a counter
surfer (that chicken breast just looked TOO tempting!), but we are working on
that one as well.
Cherise has come such a long way in just over a week! Of course, she IS still a
puppy who obviously never had much attention or structure in her life, but we
are making up for that now—with lots of attention and plenty of time devoted to
learning house rules. As she learns to focus, we know she will make someone a
wonderful companion.
