Molly
comes to us through the intervention of loving and concerned people who got help
for her when her owner no longer could. Until just a few months ago, she was the
apple of her owner's eye: living in a small apartment with him, happy and well
cared for, enjoying daily walks. Then disaster struck: he developed a rapidly
progressive brain tumor which caused partial paralysis, physical pain, and,
quite quickly, a loss of short-term memory. Molly could no longer go on walks,
and a cement porch became her only "outdoors." As her owner's grip on reality
faded, she was often simply forgotten on the tiny porch, plagued by heat, flies,
and fleas, forced to sit and lie in her own waste. She ate every several days or
so, whenever her owner remembered that she was there, patiently waiting.
As her owner's condition worsened, the apartment's management became involved
and contacted out-of-state family members, who came to take him home. The family
wanted to take Molly to the shelter-but when her owner finally understood that
he had to leave his beloved girl, he called out her name and cried. His friends
promised him they would find help for her-and they contacted a wonderful local
one-woman rescue, who then contacted GRR, met Molly, told us her story, and sent
us a picture of the anxious, sweet-faced girl.
The very next day, GRR collected Molly and brought her home. Oh how Molly
enjoyed getting clean and flea-free again! (we managed to find out right away
that Molly is not at all thunderstorm phobic, as she bathed her in the yard with
a storm rolling in!) Her tail would not stop wagging! Our volunteer told us, "I
can't really get a good look in her ears, because she keeps flinging herself on
her back for a tummy rubs!"
A vet visit revealed ear infections, a skin infection, a 15-pound surplus in
weight, and a cracked tooth that needs extraction. But NO heartworms - hooray!
So it was off to her foster home for Miss Molly. Ears and skin are all cleared
up now, and here's what her foster mom has to say:
She is a sweetheart!! After getting a bubble bath and brush out, she settled
right into our home with one other Golden and three little girls. That was her
first test: can Molly survive the rigors of living with a two-year-old who
ADORES Goldens??? YES!!! Molly lets our daughter climb all over her, sit by her
when she eats, and pull her favorite chew toy. Like our Golden Nanna, Molly is a
willing target for dress-up: the other day she was sporting a diamond necklace,
while Nanna was wearing a pink hat and Barbie slippers!
Molly is a beautiful deep redhead with four white socks who loves to play, go on
walks and take long naps on the cool tile floor. She is not a barker, but groans
with delight when she gets to play tug-of-war. Any walk is a good walk for her;
she usually ignores most other animals she sees on the walk and will either walk
alongside you or jog next to you. She is already toning up, and she has even got
Nanna, who is not a big enthusiast of chase and tug, to play with her by gently
bopping her over the head with a toy!
Molly sleeps all night until you wake her up at nine. She knows no strangers and
has never even tried to get out the front door without permission. She is a
loving, gentle, playful pumpkin. She will make wonderful new addition to some
lucky family!
