ADOPTED
Zoe
Grace is a beautiful Golden girl with expressive eyes and a sweet smile. She
came to GRR from a loving and caring home and is very well trained.
She has been completely trustworthy in the house from day one. We leave her
babygated in the living room during the day where her worst crime has been
to shred a stray paper napkin! Zoe has clearly been trained not to get up on
the furniture--she has never attempted it when we are around. However, we
did catch her sneaking down from the couch once when we came home from work.
To her credit, she looked suitably ashamed of herself!
Zoe is a big girl who came to us weighing 100 pounds! Zoe is working hard on
her diet and exercise, however, and has already lost 5 pounds in the 2 weeks
she has been with us. She loves healthy snacks like baby carrots and takes
them gently from our hands. We believe her target weight is somewhere around
75 pounds, and as much as Zoe loves to walk, the extra 20 pounds should melt
off quickly!
Speaking of walking, Zoe would love to be walked twice a day for at least 20
minutes. She does pull on the leash when first starting out with a buckle
collar, but does much better with a pinch collar. She prefers a fairly quick
pace and will even jog some if you want her to.
Zoe loves to be outside and would benefit from finding a family who likes
the great outdoors as much as she does. She is obsessed with squirrels and,
despite her large size, she is capable of running after them like the wind.
In her first week here, Zoe occasionally got so excited that she put her
paws up on the fence or attempted to dig at its base. We corrected this
behavior each time and she has not attempted it in about a week, however,
she would probably do best in a yard with a high, secure fence.
Zoe will retrieve a ball, stick or rope on land, but seems to like this
activity much better in the water! She is an excellent swimmer and I can’t
emphasize enough how much she loves, loves, loves the water! Ideally, her
people will have a pool or will take her often to the creek or lake.
Zoe loves to be around you and will follow her people from room to room. She
knows most basic commands, has a perfect sit, and learns very quickly to
adapt to what is expected of her. She is good at the vet, patient while
being bathed and groomed, and she does not counter surf. She travels well
and waits for permission to get in and out of the car. Zoe likes attention
but does not insist on having it all the time. She seems to enjoy time to
herself, just sniffing the breeze outside or looking out the window inside.
Zoe is very good with cats. She sniffs them and occasionally licks them if
they will permit it. If they hiss at her, Zoe stands very still or walks
away. Her previous owner reported that she will growl at cats if they
approach her food bowl while eating. And as good as she is with indoor cats,
Zoe will chase outdoor cats if she encounters them. She might not do this if
the cats belonged to her household, but since our cats stay indoors, we
can’t be sure.
Zoe rarely jumps up on people. She has behaved very well
with the children in our neighborhood who are all between the ages of 5 and
9 years old).
Zoe will melt your heart. She is a beautiful girl who will brighten the days
of the lucky family who gives her a forever home to call her own!
