ADOPTED

Ginger, age 7.  Watch for her story coming soon from her foster family.

Ginger is a beautiful medium gold retriever with a white chest and a white muzzle that reflects her wise soul. She's about 7 years old and has had quite a few litters in her time, though she is spayed now.

She came to us from an older, retired couple who were planning to start traveling frequently and felt that all the coming and going would just be too hard on Ginger. Ginger had been given to them by an acquaintance who'd used her in his backyard breeding business, and they didn't know much about her life with him. But one thing is for sure-she is a very gentle and loving dog who is learning to love being in a new home with treats, walks, toys, other dogs to keep her company and all the pets she could want. She is sometimes unsure of herself, so she needs a little coaxing in new situations. She has been completely trustworthy in the house from day one. She'll sleep in a crate but prefers to sleep through the night at the side of the bed with her head tucked under the bed.

Ginger is a good eater. She takes treats gently but also wants the other dog's treats too. She's learned to sit (most of the time) on command and will go to the door to be let out. She doesn't know yet that she can ask to come in too. She likes to run in the yard and has learned from our terrier to chase the squirrels. She's not sure what to do with a ball and is just learning tug and keep away with the lovey toys. She won't go into the bathroom for some reason, and when we walk her outside, she stops and sits if a truck passes by.

Ginger must have been a very good mommy. She gets along well with our lab/Chow mix and our overbearing terrier. She watches the cat but isn't really interested, though we know she was good friends with a cat at her former home. She has met several dogs in the neighborhood and gotten along just fine with them. Ginger would do well with kids who don't crawl all over her, but who like taking her on walks and teaching her how to catch in the yard. She loves touches and for all the loving care she has given, it's her turn now.

Ginger will make a family a great pet, whether there are children in the home or not . She would also enjoy another dog in the house to help show her the ropes and maybe a kitty too.

She needs a home that will accept her little quirks (she yodels when I get home) and teach her how to love the life she has. I know she wants to.
