ADOPTED
Little
Dog... I would like to introduce you to Little Dog, a bright smallish,
skinny female, 1 ½ to 2 yrs. old, with a beautiful honey colored coat. We
have only had her for about a week now and she is still a little insecure.
She likes to be with you ALL the time. She was here 4 days before she would
leave the living room and walk to the kitchen for a drink of water without
one of us going with her. But with that insecurity comes a lot of loyalty. I
do not believe you will find another dog that will latch on to your every
movement or mood. She is going to be a great family dog. It is somewhat
typical for a new foster dog to be a little insecure at first, as we tend to
see them blossom after the first week in foster care.
Her insecurity plays out in her habits. She knows there are dog toys in the
basket, but she prefers the TV remote, socks, underwear or almost anything
at her level that belongs to you. She just pulls it over and lays her head
on it. Maybe to get a rise out of us or be comforted by our smell.
Little Dog must never have been fed table food as she is not interested in
anything we are eating. (That is a good thing!) And, she must never have had
a doggy treat because she has to examine everything you give her. But, if
you lean on the counter to look over the mail or prepare food, she is right
up there on the counter checking it all out. We are now working on the first
house rule... no jumping up against the counters.
We are working with Little Dog on "sit" and she's so eager to be by our side
that she would never think of walking ahead or pulling on the lead. Very
nice little dog! She is now playing fetch with all the energy of a 2 yr.
old. She loves the game but so far hasn't won any awards for catching.
We bumped into the neighbor kids down the block on one of our walks. I had
her sit so she would not scare the toddler, and before I new it, there was a
whole bunch of kisses and hugs going around. Little Dog is very good and
patient with little kids stepping on her toes and hugging her neck. As for
energy level, she seems content with a nightly walk around the block and
some fetch across the living room. She can bound across the back yard in
about three jumps. I'm sure she could use more exercise.
At bed time, Little Dog is now officially spoiled. We usually finish the
night in the big bed watching the news and doing some cuddling. Little Dog
is usually stretched out on her back getting her tummy scratched. I am sure
she would stay there all night, but when the TV goes off, she now goes to
her crate. She stays there all night with the door open.
Little Dog needs a real name she can recognize, she needs some home work and
training, she needs some stability in her life to call her own, and she
needs a forever family like yours to love! Little Dog is another great
Golden that has so much potential and will fit wonderfully into a family
willing to embrace her.
