ADOPTED
Rio...
Hi, my name is Rio. I have quite a history, so sit back, relax and let me tell
you all about my adventures! My story began in San Antonio a few years back.
Gold Ribbon Rescue saved me from an animal shelter down there. I’m glad they
did, because I really needed some help—when they picked me up they told me I had
tick disease and heartworms. They took care of both problems for me. Then it
really started to hurt me even to walk around or even to stand in one place.
Turned out some of my vertebrae were pinching the nerves in by back. So, the
folks at GRR helped me again, getting me back surgery to relieve the pain. And
after a little recovery time I was finally ready for a new home! I was adopted
by a great family and lived with them for a couple of years. Sadly, my family
had to move to a place where they could no longer take care of me. Now, my
friends at GRR are going to find me another wonderful new home.
I am living with my foster parents, my two foster doggie brothers, and a cat. I
love playing with the other dogs, and I don’t really pay attention to the cat.
My foster parents told me that I am the best-behaved foster dog they have ever
had. I am very gentle, loving, and patient. I love to play with my tennis balls
(were my foster parents surprised when they saw me pick up three balls at one
time!). I love to go on walks and I do really well on a leash. I won’t get on
the furniture, even when the other dogs do. At night, I love to sleep in my
crate.
My
foster parents have been helping me lose some weight by putting me on a diet and
letting me get a little exercise. Over the last 4 weeks, I have had some great
results. I still need to lose more weight, but things are headed in the right
direction. Keeping up with my Golden buddies has worked wonders.
I would do well in a home by myself or with other dogs (cats are fine too). I am
fantastic in both situations! Although I am a big guy (95 pounds), I am
extremely gentle, so I am great around kids too. Because of my back surgery, I
would not be a good fit for someone who wants to take me running, but my second
favorite thing (behind playing with tennis balls) is to go on walks. I get
really, really, happy when I see my leash.
So, if you’re looking for a mild, gentle companion who will enjoy taking a
stroll with you and love you more than you could ever imagine, I am your guy.
