We are so terribly sorry to tell you that we said
goodbye to our
sweet Miss Oatey on Wednesday evening, April 2, 2008. She had been
in declining health for quite awhile and we knew it was time to let
her rest. Oatey was one of our foster dogs and we adopted her in
early 2004, when she was 8 1/2 years old. She was a sweet soul with
a beautiful face and personality and an abundance of blonde fur. She
was a quiet companion to all of us, including several other Goldens.
Oatey mothered our foster dogs and was kind and gentle to everyone
and everything. Our Oatey will always be missed and loved.

Oatey
is a beautiful, blonde Golden who came in to GRR's care from a family who was
absolutely heartbroken to have to give her up. Her foster family is enjoying her
immensly. Here's what they have to say about our girl, Oatey:
Oatey is doing GREAT. She has blended right into the household
and has trained us to throw her ball on command (she's still working on
training our other golden). Her coat is a beautiful golden and she
delights in having a good brushing. She's interested in the squirrels that
frequent our yard, but doesn't chase them or lecture them with barks. We
think she's trying to figure out what they're eating because she's pretty
sure it couldn't be those nasty acorns. She loves to lay at your feet
whether you're watching tv, reading, or eating. While dinnertime is her
favorite time, she doesn't beg or try to get attention during meals.
It's
pretty clear that she has been loved and well cared for because she
has no fears or worries (other than when Mom is late with dinner - but hey,
we all worry about that). She loves a walk about anytime but especially
when the weather is cool and all those great outdoor smells are around.
She loves to play-- especially with the ball. We have to keep them out of site
unless we want her to play. She is very calm and likes her afternoon naps. When
Oatey wants to come inside, she taps on the door very very lightly - I actually
thought it was a person knocking gently!
Oatey is a really nice dog and will make some family very, very happy.
Update 11/21/03:
Oatey is very attentive, but not
possessive or demanding. She will follow
you around the house keeping an eye out for those pesky squirrels. Every so
often she likes a little attention (a tummy rub or an ear scratch) and she
enjoys playing with Shadow (even though he has a higher energy level).
Oatey has a beautiful blonde coat so she also loves a gentle brushing.
The yard is her favorite place on sunny afternoons, but she's also content
watching the action in the kitchen. She absolutely loves playing ball and a
walk around the neighborhood. After dinner, she's
content to relax on the cool tile in the hall. When she tires out in the
evening, she will sleeps peacefully at your feet.
Oatey is a great dog with a laid-back personality. She has become very
secure in a short time and fits right into the household.
